Picked up a used ArmaLite M15A2 Carbine at a Cabela's the other day. After playing with the gun for a while as it was in the used racks out on the floor I told they sales guy I'd take it.

Once I told him I'd take it he would not let me touch it again[:(!][:(!] It was sitting in the used rack and he went and got it.

While I was filling out the 4473 he watched me lik I was a crook after showing him my military ID, CCW and DL, not to mention he did not like me joking about the new questions on the 4473.

Then he walked us (me, the wife and 2 kids) up to customer service where they again would not let me touch the rifle [BD]

I asked why he is treating us like this and was told it's the "new" policy after 9-11 so no (his words) rag head would buy a gun and shoot up the store[xx(] I told him I sure looked like a terrorist and that I felt like they were treating me like one. Also asked him when any terrorist had ever bought a rifle with a USAF  ID card (active) and CCW permit then shot up any store. Naturally he could not answer me, but replied it was "policy"

After paying for it and our outer purchases the sales guy carried out the rifle and walked us to the truck.

Was not the most plesent buying expercience we've ever had.

I would of told him to stick that rifle up his ass! Any member of armed forces should be treated with a little respect, in my book. You should have bought it somewhere else.

Many years before 9/11, I bought a Ruger p89, 9mm at Kmart in Anchorage.  It was back before the NIC, so I had to wait 3 days before I coud pick it up.  Same deal though.  The sales guy had to escort me to the door carrying my newly purchased and payed for Ruger.  I was not allowed to buy ammo for this firearm for 24 hours from that time in that store either.  I stopped at the next Kmart on the way out of town and bought my ammo.  I showed him by golly.   I wasn't too offended as I was aware of the store policy.

I'd have taken my money and left the store after the "rag head" comment.

Actually, i'd have mentioned the comment to management, and then walked out with my money.

I worked at a Gander Mountain retail store part time to get me through college.

Our policy five years a go was to walk the customer to the door with the firearm.  I would tell customers that they would have to load it in the parking lot and always got a smile[:)].

We could sell ammo and everything else at the time of sale.

Sometime one sales ASSociate can give a store a bad rep.

I always would tell people that I put "fast," in the Race column on the 4473 when I buy a gun.

Life is too short to be an a**hole especially to someone with a military id, the people out kicking terrorist ass. [soapbox]

Sent Cabela's a e-mail, don't expect a reply till Monday at the soonest. Will see what they say.

Did not bother me that much about checking the military ID, as I'm not special and don't diserve any special consideration. However, after passing the FBI mandated check and still not being alowed to handle the firearm upset me.

Then his comment about "rag heads" was totally uncalled for.

Hopefully they wil have something constructive to say in there reply!!!

Just another reminder that the associates in,  and the owners of, the establishments which provide the wares we use and enjoy need not [and for the most part do not] have anything in common with us at all.

They sell a good/service and the commonality with us does not extend beyond that relationship.

Totally PC, totally uninformed and totally BS!

Cabelas though, for those who have never been, is a kick-a$$ place.

Made it by one in Dundee, Michigan and it was pretty cool.

We have Bi-Mart stores around here and I've bought several guns from them. They have always been very courteous and helpful. They do carry the gun to the checkout, but I really don't mind that too much since it's really still their gun until I fork over the money and they always make sure the clerk has the right price so there isn't that problem to contend with. From the checkout it's all mine. They don't have any silly rules that I've ever found about guns and ammo at the same time either. I've looked at guns at some of the other big box stores in our area and if they're less than courteous I don't go back and I surely wouldn't buy something from one of em, the iron can rust there for all I care..........

I work part time at a local sporting goods store in OKC, its always been our policy to walk are customers up to the front when they buy a firearm or ammo. I even walk them to there cars. The only time I don't walk them up front with the ammo unless I know them and they are a LEO.
