Man Pinned Down By Citizens In Robbery
Deputies Say Starke Man Tried To Rob S&S Store POSTED: Wednesday, July 21, 2010 UPDATED: 1:56 pm EDT July 21, 2010 
Chris Crew COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. –– Deputies in Columbia County arrested a Starke man who they said tried to rob an S&S store thanks to the help of some nearby citizens. Investigators said Chris Crew, 49, went into the store at Baya Avenue and Country Club Road about 11 p.m. Tuesday with a handgun and told the clerk to give him money from the cash register. Deputies said the clerk immediately activated store security measures, and Crew tried to leave. They said he was able to make his way through the locked front doors and attempted to run away from the business when three citizens heard the commotion and saw him trying to run away. Deputies said the citizens chased him and were able to tackle him behind the business. Deputies said one of the citizens was able to pin the man on the ground until deputies could arrive. Deputies said they recovered a small caliber handgun, and Crew was taken into custody. He is charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Crew was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond. No one was injured during the attempted robbery, deputies said. http://www.news4jax.com/news/24340421/detail.html |

but good on them either way!

Kudo's to the citizens for taking action, they should be commended for simply acting, more than the general population can be expected to do.

The writer needs to go back to remedial grammar class. The first sentence makes it sound like the citizens helped with the robbery.

Also possible that the perp tossed the weapon when he thought he was busted and took off running. Still no guarantee he didn't have a second weapon, but if you've got 'backup' then it's not a completely dangerous decision to chase him down. |

In England, would those citizens be in jail for getting involved rather than just letting the police handle it?
In the US, are there localities that would prosecute the three for unlawful imprisonment? Sorry about the negative. Good pin, citizen trifecta! |
