How will it perform against current russian/chinese missiles?
I understand they'll have to be pretty close up to go all-aspect IR (it seems that only the rear aspect is hot enough for a seeker) however the russians are working on IR+Radar tracking. |

It was interesting seeing what parts were hot during non-burner flight. It turns into quite the little glowing fireball when the burners are on!

Some random comments:
1. who knows if this is genuine footage? disinformation is prevalent 2. who knows if the aircraft is representative? disinformation is prevalent 3. IR signatures are relative. Relative to a. what a missile can detect b. what is visible to augmented observers and c. what the enemy aircraft presents. Where in the tier of visibility this fits is an important question. Cool footage either way. Burn a ton of fuel in 400 seconds, and something is going to get warm...(random guesses on the ton and 400 seconds thing but you get my drift) |

The air data probes and ECS steam vent were showing up as bright white; pretty neat.
At that distance, Helen Keller could find the aircraft. Nonetheless, it's pretty cool footage. |

You can't use a heat seeking missile if you don't know where the airplane is to get a lock in the first place. Even if they could reduce the IR signature to negligeable levels, there are missiles out there that use the plane blocking UV light against the sky to track and lock. |
