I am driving to houston in june and figured these would be two cool cities to stop over in and break up the drving time from Tampa.
I want to be as close to the night life as possible.Should Destin be replaced by somewhere else in the vicinity?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I am in Pensacola. I don't know any hotels in Destin, though. But, Destin is a good choice. If you are in Fort Walton, they have some strip joints. I usually try to avoid travelling east, except for Gun Shows. Pensacola also has a number of strip joints also (We have the Naval Air Station, Fort Walton has Eglin AFB. You figure it out.)

Um, I would suggest that if you travel through Louisiana that you make sure your shocks are in good shape. The roads haven't been repaved....ever. I-10 seems pretty bad until you get into New Orleans outside of the French Quarter. St. Louis north of the French Quarter is esentially one huge pothole. Also, unlike most everywhere else...The New Orleans PD will pull people over on the bridge over Lake Pochtrain (Between Slidell and New Orleans).

Lousiana has some of the loosest gun laws in the nation. They have a very low threshold to be considered Self-Defense. I'm pretty sure open carry is legal, but as I was in New Orleans I didn't try it.

In New Orleans you should try the Alligator. It is very good. Another word of warning, except for Harrah's there are no parking lots in the French Quarter, so you'll need quarters to feed the Parking Meters. Last ime I was there, Bourbon Street was closed at Canal Street. But, since they were all one way streets you had to drive around an extra few miles to get into the French Quarter.

Side notes on other areas you will pass through:

1) Bladwin County, AL -- Very nice area. Open carry is legal and I have carried there w/o a problem. I also understand that AL now has a reciprocal CCW agreement with Florida. Robertsdale is the first exit off of I-10 after you get to AL. There is a fireworks store with CHEAP fireworks. I go there whenever I need fireworks becuase I can get them for alot cheaper than in Florida and the AL firecrackers are alot better than the stuff they sell at Neptune and Phantom. There is also a range down the street that the Fireworks place is on. They have Rifle out to 200 yards. The guy who runs the place is super nice.

2) Mississippi -- Very Cool with  its Gun Laws. Open carry is legal from what I can tell and you can carry in your vehicle no problemo. They have alot of Casinos down in Biloxi and Gulfport. The casinos have good food for for next to nothing...for casino patrons of course.

3) Louisiana -- See beginning.
