My former boss has one of these:    But today her husband took it, and she was driving his Mustang.

She kept referring to it as her "truck".  It took a lot in me not to correct her and call it an SUV.

IMO, no bed and/or no frame = not a truck.

Well of course.

She used to have a Sport Trac, that is a truck.

A station wagon is a station wagon, regardless of marketing terminology.

It's an SUV, but when I am talking about my Suburban I refer to it as a truck.

My sister used to call her S10 Blazer a truck all the time.

In the Army we called M1114s trucks (or gun trucks), and I still call SUVs trucks.

A station wagon.

That's an SUV. I'd hesitate to call it a truck because it's a unibody. A Tahoe would be different, IMO. But, let her call it a "truck". It's closer to that than a car.

That thing in the OP = Not a truck.

Hers isn't.  Which makes no sense, because we live somewhere where there's WINTER.  It does have traction control, which makes some sense but 4WD>traction control, IMO.

I have an suv too but I still call it my truck. Besides it has truck plates on it.  Cheaper than car plates for some strange reason.

I am always annoyed when people call something like that a truck.  It's an SUV.  It annoys me in the same way as people calling a small SUV that is not a JEEP product  a "jeep."

ETA: I am less annoyed when its a full size SUV built on a truck frame.  However, it's still a SUV.

Well, it's built in a truck plant that is under the truck division, but it really doesn't meet the definition of a truck.

The registration on ANY Chevy product we have had with the phrase "Blazer" in the name(Blazer, TrailBlazer) says "Carryall."

Explain that to me.

SUV.

Unless it's made by Jeep - then I call it a Jeep.

My girlfriend's family has a Grand Cherokee and she calls it a Jeep.

FYI, when I bought mine it came from the Ford Truck Division, so I think calling it a truck is perfectly fine.

I figure if it was built on a truck frame then it is technically a truck.

There are different levels of vehicle description-

Kingdom: Motor Vehicle
Phylum: Car, Truck, Bike
Class: Wagon, Coupe, Sedan, SUV, Pick-up, etc...
Order: Sports Car, GT, Crossover, Luxury SUV, etc...
Family: Ford, etc...
Genus: Mustang, etc...
Species: GT, etc...

I would argue that a vehicle on a truck chassis without a bed, like an Expedition, could be called a truck or an SUV, while a boxy vehicle on a car chassis without a trunk, like a Rav4, could be called a car or an SUV.

The Technical term is SUV however I call my SUV a truck all the time, Has the same engine as the truck, has the same frame, and 4x4/towing so why not?

a "Cross over" is NOT a truck it is an SUV or Car because its built on a sedan frame.

Think of an SUV with a truck with a permanent topper and seats that people can sit in! You can still fold the seats down and use it just as a truck (some people even have rubber liners for them to make sure they don't get all muddy.)

I would call it a crossover because it isn't manly enough to be an SUV.

Much quicker to say truck than pronounce Ess-You-Vee. Regardless of what it is (you might even call it a tall station wagon), I would probably refer to it in conversation as a truck, the same way I refer to my Xterra. (which I acknowledge is also an SUV)

If someone wants to call it a truck, it's a truck.

In my vocab, I'll refer to an SUV as a truck casually, never had any misunderstanding

I guess, all SUV's are a type of truck, but not all trucks are SUV's
