Where to buy gasoline and not support terrorism.. Actually is food for
thought. Yisrael Medad of the Begin Center sent the following information:

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of
Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.
Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the
tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from.

Major companies that import Middle Eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00-8/31/01):
Shell           205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco  144,332,000 barrels
Exxon/Mobil     130,082,000 barrels
Marathon        117,740,000 barrels
Amoco            62,231,000 barrels

If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Citgo                     0 barrels
Sunoco                    0
Conoco                    0
Sinclair                  0
BP/Phillips               0

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and can
be easily documented. Refineries located in the U.S. are required to state
where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis.

Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop paying for terrorism.

Thank God, I switched to Citgo Gas a while back (I frequent the convinience store attached to it). At least, I now know I am not support the Saudis.

Me too. Heck, I haven't bought Exxon fuel since the Valdez fiasco.

CC48510 - are you SURE?  Som,e years ago a law was passed that made it OK for a branded station to buy from sources other than the company who's sign is out front.  FAct is, no matter where you buy, you have no idea the source!!

Too bad - we could hold their feet to the fire.  Best solution is attack SA and be done with it!

I think Mouse is right and onto something. You cannot tell me all those companies have their own refineries or at sometime don't buy form other sources? Yeah the truck delivering it may say Citgo or whatever, but I don't think you can say it is completley middle east free stuff?

Didn't BP buy out Amoco recently too? So did they suddenly switch all thier production?

Sounds good, and I'm sure you wish it were that simple, but it is absolutely not true...

The implication that most of the oil exported to the U.S. comes from the Middle East. According to the Energy Information Administration (as reported by The New York Times), the biggest exporters of oil to the USA in 2000 were (in millions of barrels per day):
Canada: 1.69
Saudi Arabia: 1.57
Venezuela: 1.52
Mexico: 1.36
Nigeria: 0.89
Iraq: 0.61

I'm no petro engineer, but refineries are set up to refine only a certain kind of crude oil.  The element sulfur being the nemisis, the more sulfur, the less desirable.

Isn't Citgo a division of the anti-gun Southland Corp, that owns 7-11 convience stores?

I have Amoco, Shell, Marathon, Mobile, and three Independents to choose from.

Family Express (Independent) I was told by a friend is owned by the Arabs, I have no proof of this being true, but they are always one of the highest priced, so I buy else where anyway.

Citgo is the US refining/marketing branch of PDVSA, the state-owned petroluem entity of the ONLY non-Arab member of OPEC.  I'd rather pump Russian gasoline into my car than support these crooks.  Remeber when petro was nationalized in Venezuela?  All of the refineries were taken over by the military and companies that were doing business were forced out w/o compensation.

As far as KNOWING the gasoline you pump isn't Arab, good luck.  Its piped from the refineries to tank farms where it is trucked to ANY retail outlet.  If that outlet is an Exxon, the gasloine could be from ANY refinery that has connections to the pipeline.  This exists on the crude supplies for land-locked refineries.

The ONLY way to assure non-Arab petro is to use bio-diesel, a fuel made from waste vegetable oil and alcohol.  The Arabs don't have any stake in that market.

Its true refineries must alter their processes based on sulfur content/gravity etc. but they also blend feedstocks to the same effect.  This feedstock blending makes tracability of petro impossible.

Just drive less!  I'm using half as much as I used to while still traveling the same mileage.  How?  Sensible driving habits, more economical vehicle and alternative transportation.

OPEC members include Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela.  Five of 12 appear to be "non-Arab".

Non-OPEC countries produced 60% of the world's oil in 2000. Of the top ten oil producers in the world in 2000, only three (Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Venezuela) were OPEC members. Non-OPEC oil production has been increasing steadily since 1993, with the United States, Russia, Mexico, China, Canada and North Sea countries Norway and the United Kingdom as the most prolific producers. Non-OPEC countries also possess most of the world's capacity for refining crude oil into petroleum products such as gasoline and heating oil.

The equipment is all the same in a refinery no matter what the current crude is. Depending on the crude characteristic, the tower operations will be adjusted to match. Yes it would be nice to have a tower set up for each type of crude to achieve the best $$/per bbl but it doesn't work like that. Sulfur is manageable and not a big issue the biggest deal is what you are trying to produce and which crude has more of it. If you want asphalt only you want the heaviest crude if you want gas then the lighter crude’s. I'm sure you get the idea.

As far as knowing were the gas comes from it is just about impossible to know. My refinery (Williams) sales to Chevron, Texaco, and a bunch of mom and pops. We also barge to lower 48(have no clue were that goes). I you like the price of gas now what till EPA get done with it. They want low low sulfur fuels and all it does is add directly to t the cost of the gas (in the neighborhood of $.25 a gal)
