Due to the post 9-11 environment the recently drafted executive order which will repeal the 94 Assault Weapon ban has just been approved. Under consideration at this time are similar E.O.s concerning the 1989 Import Ban signed into law by George W. Bush Sr. George was quoted as saying "My father had good intentions when he approved the 89' Import law but he lived in much different times."

The provisions of Executive Order 40122 go into effect October 31 of 2003. What this means to gun owners is after that date the resumed manufacture of high capacity magazines and firearms assembled in a "assault weapon" configuration will be legal for any citizen lawfully entitled to purchase firearms.

Suprising support for this new direction was even found on the Democratic side of the House. Sen. Boxer who in the past has built a career on gun control and assault weapon legislation said "Our primary concern is no longer internal terrorism but international terrorism." Sen. Schumer noted that "I the almost 10 years the ban has been in effect it has not signifigantly reduced crime. This is due to the fact that most crimes were never commited with these weapons." Hillary Clinton went further by reminding Democrats that "Gun issues probably cost us the last election. Democrats must embrace the second amendment as much as the first. If you are dumb enough to believe this will ever happen, you too can be a Democrat." Happy April Fools Day.
