Coastie video
From wikipedia: The term coastie or coasty (more often heard and seen as the plural coasties) is a term used in Midwestern U.S. universities (Especially the University of Wisconsin-Madison) to denote students who come from outside of the region, mainly from the East or West coast. The term is also used to describe students from the north shore suburbs of Chicago.[1] The term is thought to have been coined in the early to mid 90s.[2] Although the most general use of the term denotes only the origin of these students, there are often implicit or explicit associations that use of the term can evoke. One is that coasties do not pay their own tuition because they come from socioeconomically privileged families. Other associations include living in private residence halls and membership in a fraternity or a sorority. Additional associations are fashion-related and are therefore more ephemeral. The most recent coastie fashion consists of Ugg boots, The North Face jackets, plain black leggings, American Apparel v-neck t-shirts, Longchamp Bags, and over-sized sunglasses. Coasties were also early adapters of the "Gacchos" wear in 2005. [3][4]
It is not just what they wear, but their stuck up attitude. |

We had Korean international students wearing Uggs when it was 90 degrees out. Some of the Coasties also wore their Uggs when it was hot out. Think about the stinky feet

Coasty and "J.A.P." are pretty much interchangeable around here. I've noticed that a lot of the JAPs are actually Persian, which is pretty ironic.

Coastie is a bad term for women like that since the name implies geographical origins, when honestly its just a product of being raised/living in an affluent area. While yes, affluent areas tend to be on the coasts since that is where the money is, you can easily find "coastie" girls in affluent sections of various cities in the south, the midwest and the rockies. Sure, I was raised on the east coast and those girls where all over. Then I moved to the midwest and thought they didn't exist until I started bartending at a restaurant in an upscale neighborhood. The majority of my customers where just like "Coasties", but where midwest born and raised.
You don't have to be from a coast to be a rich bitch.

The major problem with these types is that they are liberal to the hilt but yet mooch off their parents for everything and act all stuck up. They do not work campus jobs (I never worked with a coastie at UW-Madison. Ever.), dominate the Greek System (making it their exclusive club), and act all snobby. Meanwhile, many of them support liberals. At least they are not hippy chicks who go to jam band concerts and smoke all sorts of hallucinogens and weed... |
