How did the cop get your speed? Have had 8 traffic tickets in the past 5 years. Have fought every single one. Lost one though. The cop embelished on the stand.

I really am sorry that you  will have to pay a fine(tax) on your ticket.  But I must say that I hope you do lose your license for a while, maybe than you will learn to slow the hell down.  101!! WTF were you thinking?  Ever hear the phrase "Speed Kills"?

Get a lawyer.  Plea it out.  Often you can get probation or probation w/ Def. Driving and/or community service.  2-300 bucks for a lawyer is better than months w/out a license.

I once responded to an accident where this hot chick put her car into a tree to avoid a squirrel...

And, while laying on the deck in her shorts and tank top with the EMT's working on her, I couldn't take my eyes off that bare midriff and black lace bra....

My record is 124 in a 55.  Got a warning tix because I knew the DS.  That's the reason I don't pay much attention to posted limits; they don't apply to everyone equally.  Cops, DAs, mayors, etc., don't get tickets.  About every four years I get caught, argue in traffic court and, with one except, get it reduced or thrown out.  I'm about .500.

Does anyone really believe the government wants everyone to drive at or under the limit?  No way they want to lose all that $$$.  Whenever I pay a tix, I'm being a good citizen.

Last speeding ticket I ever got was for 97 in a 65 in Tift County GA...luckily for me, Reckless Driving in GA at the time started at double the speed limit, so I just got hit with a $144 ticket, no license suspension.

I second what toaster says.  Slow the fuck down.  You think it's all cool.  Until you have a wreck and kill yourself or someone else.  You're not only risking your life, you're endangering other people.

I have no sympathy for you Matt.  They should suspend your license.  It would be even nicer if they could mandate a governor that limited your speed to the speed limit.

Driving like that is like being irresponsible and unsafe with a firearm.  I won't tolerate it, and you shouldn't either.

DUMB ASS.

Here's what happens to people who speed like that:

http://vatican.rotten.com/crash/

I post this as a link, not the actual photos, because they're too gruesome to show here.

But, that being said,  the way it works is, you find out what normal punishment guidelines are for your ticket.  If it's worse than a fine, you fight it.  Take it to court.

If the cop doesn't show up to defend his giving you the ticket, you win by default.

If he does show up, your first line of attack is to request proof that his equipment has been recently calibrated and that he has a properly issued FCC license to operate radar equipment.
If he doesn't have BOTH of those, and in good order, it's trivial to get the case thrown out.

Maybe you have a friend in some police department in the area.  Maybe you can talk to him and find out when would be the best time to try to get the traffic court date scheduled.  Some cops will NEVER show up if it's one of their days off, so try to get one of those days if you can get info on the cop's schedule.  Or try to get it scheduled for a day that is probably going to be busy for the police, as in a typical Friday.   If they're really busy, nobody's going to show up in court over a traffic ticket.

I fought a small fine for a speeding ticket (about ten over, that's all) and the cop didn't show up so case closed.

i also agree that people that go 100 MPH should get suspended, however, i cant help but at least try to save my own liscence. hypocritical maybe, but im gonna do what ever i can to save my ass here.

one thing i have heard is call and get the court date fasttracked, if you get it fast enough, the trooper (yes, it was a state dick) wont be able to get it into his schedual fast enough. im talking to a lawyer today.

Did mattsd hurt anyone?  No. Did he crash and cause property damage?  No.  Where, then, is the crime?

Germans drive 100mph+ on the autobahns and our interstates are basically the same thing.  Lighten up on the poor guy.  There should be no speed limits anywhere.  They are just another part of the state's great campaign to use morality to raise funds.  You're brainwashed if you think that certain speeds are "good" and others are "bad" simply because someone posts a sign "limiting" them.  No wonder we have so much trouble with gun control--most of you talk a good talk about freedom and liberty but have no actual idea what the hell it even means.

Fight the ticket.  Always fight the ticket.  And if you get really mad, burn down the fucking police station and see how they like that.

That's a silly attitude man.  Yeah, I want people blowing through my neighborhood at 90MPH, when my kids are playing in the yard and in the street.  Sure, let's just not have any speed limits anywhere.  Heck, let's just do away with stop signs and traffic lights too, huh?  We'll be just fine without them.

Sure, Matt didn't hurt anyone, so that's all good.  But he could have.  What would your song sound like if he had died because he lost control and crashed?

See, on the road, you interact with me.  Directly.  There are situations in which my life could be in your hands or your life in my hands.  How would you feel if I killed you, or someone you love because I was breaking the rules?  Would you just say 'Oh well'?

However, there you'd expect people going that speed, whereas in a 65mph zone, you don't. Besides, autobahns and interstates are not the same thing, inasmuch German highways are equipped with a sophisticated guardrail technology technology, passing on the right is illegal, and good part of German highways does have speed limits. The average speed on a German autobahn is 65mph, btw., with or without speed limit

Another genius....

Germans have a REAL drivers education program. Most fail the first few times taking the test. It is a long, and expensive course.

Almost no US drivers have any real high speed, type driver training. Especially the ones that just got thier license. NO experience in real world driving. There are just too many little things that can go wrong at 120+ MPH.

As far as burning down the PD? You must be a 15yr old with no friends.

Next time you see a sign in the road with a curve ahead and 15MPH under it, go ahead and do 125+ , why listen to the gov't.....

Hire an attorney. Up here just hiring my firm means half what you would get on the ticket. You would have to pay 2-500, but it is worth it.
There is a woman lawyer solo in town who short skirt flirts with the prosecutor on duty in traffic pre-hearing, and she gets a lot of her clients super deals. She charges about what we do.

Amen to that!  Anything that could potentially be misused should be strictly controlled by the government.  Why, just last week I saw a kid riding a bike without knee or elbow pads.  He didn't even have those outrigger wheels to keep him from falling over, no airbag, safety belt, nothing.  It was an obvious deathtrap.

You want a crusade, look at repeat DUIs.  I know one moron who has EARNED four DUIs.  He gets his license back in a few months.

Right, I forgot about that one. Spent about 1,200 bucks for the course. 12 hours of theoretic stuff, 12 hours minimum "normal" driving (or more, if the instructor thinks you still suck) in a vehicle with a second set of pedals for the instructor, plus two hours each of "special circumstances" driving: big city, night, highway. The last part especially neat: get on the Autobahn, accelerate to 110 mph, change lanes, pass cars, wheeee. All in a VW Golf GTD :)
Passed the written and the driving test at the first attempt :)

On an interstate, you should be able to go as fast as you can safely handle. There is a lot of buracuracy in speed limits. For example, the portions of I-95 through Brevard County (excepting Construction) are all 4 lanes with a 70 mph speed limit and are some of the deadliest. Yet, portions of Palm beach County (Some of it is rough, the rest is fine), are 8 lanes with a 55 mph speed limit. In fact, I believe the I-95 speed limit is 55 throughout Palm Beach regardless of road conditions, etc...

Then, you have Hwy-92 (International Speedway Blvd.) through the center of Daytona with the same number of lanes and similar road conditions. Yet, US-92 has limits from 65 - 70, while being a non-interstate highway. But, I-95 though Palm Beach is an interstate (controlled-access) highway and has lower speed limits. Hell, SR-419 between Winter Springs and Longwood [s]is[/s] was 55 (excepting construction) and it was a 2-lane twisting road with lots of trucks coming out of side roads.

Then, you have FL SR-520 which has a 55 mph speed limit and is 2 lanes. For the most part it is safe at high speeds, except when you hit the bend at the exit of SR-528 (Bee Line Expressway) onto SR-520, where you will slide off the road into the trees if you do more than 70 mph.

I blew out my Dad's engine when I was 17 doing 127 in a 70. It was a controlled-access highway (I-95), so the only risk is the normal idiots on I-95.

Things are different when you are talking about non-interstates and especially city streets. I was nearly run down by an idiot when I was 6. I was crossing the street and a 'vette turned the corned burning rubber. On city streets you must obey the limits because you could easily hurt someone. But, on an interstate there should be nobody outside of a vehicle. So, if the highway is empty you should know it and bee able to see far ahead.

Trickshot...You got kids? You want someone driving through the Neighborhood and say well there is no speed limit. I remember when 75 or 85 was the Max. Then you get on a Interstate and anything went.

I also have seen the out come of an accident at 55mph and 100mph. There is a difference and don't think there isn't. I think the speed should be raised.

Matt...

Most guys figure out the "maturity thing" after they spend New Years Eve hurling everything but their toenails.

Time to grow up, regardless of how old you are.  If you are driving 20 in 30 and accidently kill a 4 year old that runs out into the street, It'll haunt you the rest of your life.

If you lose control of your mini-van and kill my wife or one of my daughters, I'LLhaunt you the rest of your life.

Grow up, meant with real sincerity.
