I always liked the old Detroit Diesel 2-strokers at full cry. Dump a gallon or 2 down the intake and it'll go way off the charts.

Yep. My friend dragged me to a NHRA top fuel event a couple years ago; I had no idea what to expect. I literally thought my chest was going to explode Indy cars (the only other racing event i've seen live) had nothing on that...

Saaaaweet!! I've been around plenty of Indy cars that close but never F1. I would love to see an F1 race in person.

Nothing else in motorsports comes close to top fuel and funny cars.  That split second they go by is absolutely indescribable to anyone that has never been to a NHRA race, but I guess the feeling of your chest about to explode is pretty close    Not to mention getting bits and pieces of burnt rubber all over yourself.

1.5 liter, 1300 ( or better ) horse power,  and yes there is a stock BMW 2002/1600 block hiding under all that stuff.

There's NOTHING in motorsports (or anything else a normal person would encounter) that compares to the hit of the throttle on 2 TF dragsters.

Chances are if you're not at a TF race and you hear anything that loud, you're probably in mortal danger.

ETA

Those F1 motors are some BMF's too.

F1 has an RPM limit.  teams were able to get engines up to and past 22k.  also, the piston speed in an F1 engine at 20k is about the same as the piston speed in a 358 cup engine at 9000-9500.

Cup engine: 5145.833 FPM

F1 engine: 5200.00 FPM

Both types are amazing in their own ways, and how they reflect the mentality of their places of origin.

American Top Fuel, brute force, "Lets get the biggest, most powerful engine we can find, fuel it with rocket fuel, and throw on a MASSIVE supercharger!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we can put some wheels and a seat on it. It'll be the fastest thing ever!!!!!!"

Formula One (especially the Germans) precision, "We will make the most physically perfect, technologically advanced engine, as powerful and as compact as possible. It will then be put into a vehicle with the world's most advanced materials, electronics, brakes, suspension, and aerodynamics."

They are both the ultimate expressions of two different approaches.

Agreed.

They are both the epitome of design for their intended purpose.

And either one will make you go
