Why did this topic even get posted?  Who cares what color your skin is.  I must be honest, I grow tired of all the racial BS on this board.  People make too big a deal out of how tan or pasty you are.  Sure some black people have a chip on their shoulder, but lots of white people do too.  If you can't take people on an individual basis then it is your loss.  

The anti-homosexual rhetoric gets pretty thick here too.  When I was younger I was very put off by gay people.  To be perfectly honest, with the exception of a few lesbians who hated men, most homosexuals I have dealt with have been very good people.  What they do in their personal time is none of my business and doesn't affect my life in the slightest.  

I'm just saying that when you meet someone, you should give them a chance.  Don't write them off before you've even spoken a word to them...

A point has been raised here that I do want to cast the glaring spotlight of reality on.

Pride in many forms.

Gay Pride.   What's to be proud of?  Buggering people isn't exactly something to be proud of, particularly considering that it's filthy and it spreads diseases.   Having a wang that smells like no. 2 isn't exactly something to be proud of, either.   Nor would I be able to take pride in having sexual preferences that are contrary to nature's way and can't lead to offspring, when the primary goal of any creature is to reproduce, from a survival and evolutionary point of view.


Union pride:   I'm proud to be a union member, and if you're not a union member and we go on strike and you don't, I'll be proud to beat your scabby head in.   It matters not to me that you've got bills to pay and kids to feed, when I'm fighting to get a raise when I already make more than I really need to feed my kids and pay the bills.   I'm proud that I can hurt the company that pays my paycheck, just because I think they should pay me more.   (extreme sarcasm throughout.)

Black pride:  There are blacks to be proud of, but there are so many things to be ashamed of, too.  Lack of an education when the opportunity is there.  Getting into drugs, alcohol, and abusive behavior.  Joining a gang, learning to pull off a drive-by and how to rob a convenience store.   Pride in a holiday (kwanzaa) that was made up in recent times.    Pride in ancestors who didn't fight for their own freedom and got caught, roped up, tossed on board ships, and thrown into slavery.

Catholic Pride:  The Spanish Inquisition was ours.  You were either converted, or you were killed.   That's something to be proud of.  So much for the right to choose.    Every sperm is sacred, and even in this overpopulated world, we insist that our members do not use any form of contraception.    

In every group of people, you will find something to be proud of (well, I'm not so sure about that but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt) and in every group of people, you'll find that there are things NOT to be proud of.

I'm white, but I'm not proud of it.   I'm proud of the decent and patriotic behavior of my ancestors and my family, and of my own achievements.   But my skin color?   I didn't choose it.   I like it, though.

I 100% agree that it is asinine to take pride in an "accomplishment" like being born white/black/Texan/heterosexual/whatever.  Likewise, I think it is asinine to strut around with your chest puffed out over what your ancestors did.  You may legitimately take pride in things [b]you[/b] set out to deliberately accomplish, and I think that should be enough for anybody.
