Two people were killed early today when a driver fleeing police went the wrong way on an exit ramp on Interstate 79 in Robinson and crashed head-on into another vehicle, police said.

A 20-year-old female passenger in the car being chased by police died, along with a 61-year-old female passenger in the oncoming vehicle.

State Police said the car being driven by a 28-year-old man was being chased by Robinson Police about 1 a.m.on Steubenville Pike for multiple traffic violations when it made an illegal turn onto the I-79 exit ramp. It then collided with a car driven by a 64-year-old, which was headed out the exit ramp.

The Allegheny CountyMedical Examiner's office identified the 61-year-old as Angela Berkey of McKees Rocks. Her husband, Dorsey L. Berkey, 64,was listed in serious condition at Allegheny General Hospital, North Side.

Police said the first car flipped over as a result of the crash. Both passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The two drivers were transported to Allegheny General Hospital, North Side.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the chase has an outstanding warrant from the U.S. Marshal's Service, police said.
