i just bought a 1999 chevy malibu ls.  the car has those annoying ass daytime running lights that i can't turn off.
i didn't know this when i bought the car, and the car didn't come with an owners manual. when i asked the dealer about this i was told "no, i can't tell you how to do that, gm would have my  ass.  ?????? the big problem is that i intend to use the car for some part time surveilance type work, and i need to be able to turn those lights off while the car is running.  is there a fuse i can remove or a sensor or switch that i can disable?  any help would be appreciated.

The fuse that runs the daytime running lights probably has other things on that circuit. If thats the case just take the light bulbs out of the sockets. That'll take care of the problem as a last resort. CAPITALIST

When you need to, you could set the u-brke one click. This will turn off the daytime running lights, but will also turn on the brake warning light on the dash. You could cover this light with a piece of black tape if it is too bright.
I don't know how smart this idea is, but it works in a pinch.
Or you could get a Ford.

I had a Late model chevrolet that had the same lighting system, the easiest way to defeat it is to simply apply the parking/emergency brake ON 1 CLICK. then start the car and the lights should not come on. As long as you dont go any further than 1 click on, your brakes will not apply causing any problems while driving. That is the way everyone around here does it.

I though that in order to be in the "surveillance” business you were required to drive one of the following:

1) Ferrari 308GT
2) ’74 Ford Torino
3) Any Chev full size 4-door with a 4-bbl
4) Late 70’s Firebird
5) Chev full-size van
6) Beat-up ’70 Monte Carlo


The above vehicles are all much more [b]incognito[/b] than that late model Malibu [:D]
