You're trying to divide a weight by a volume. You'd need two volumes or two weights to get a good approximation.

Only if you could accurately calculate the total area in cubic feet/inches of the food in a 35lb bag.
The alternative would be to sit there with a measuring cup and keep scooping until you run out of the bag, keeping track of how many cups you pulled out of it. |

I would think you need to weigh out a pound worth of food, see how many cups in a pound, then multiply it by 35.

Weigh one cup of food then divide 35 pounds by that weight?
If you scoop and weigh a half dozen times to get an average weight, you might be a little more accurate. |

Find a large container, weigh it empty
Dump one cup into container and note the difference. Now dump the rest of the bag and note the difference from the weight of the empty container. Divide the full bag by the weight of the cup = amount of cups in the bag. |

186 cups in a 35lb bag of Royal Canin Boxer formula. It has large kibbles, not sure how much of an effect that has.

Fuzzy math.
Roughly 160 cups or about 40 days food at 4 cups a day. That's generous, depends on the density of the dry good. I'd be willing to bet that the manufactuer has calculated the size of the bag vs. their recommended diet to approximate a thirty day ration. |

why don't you just take a sheet of paper and every time you feed you Dog you mark it on said paper and once the bag is empty you have the exact count of how many cups are in a 35 lb bag. I think this would be the easiest way to do it rather than get all technical and mathematically to figure it out. It seems to be an easy way ok it will take you a few days or so but this way you get the exact count.
