I was doing some looking at the California DOJ site regarding assault rifle features and found that a bayonet lug is not a feature that is prohibited. Here's the link to the PDF file:

12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:
(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
(A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
(B) A thumbhole stock.
(C) A folding or telescoping stock.
(D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
(E) A flash suppressor.
(F) A forward pistol grip.
(2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
(3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.

I believe it would still be restricted by Federal law.

If it's an AR-type or another rifle with US parts it should be exempt from any federal restrictions.  I think this also applies to putting a "pre-ban" upper on a post ban lower.  As long as the barrel has no flash hider or threads it should be fine to have the lug.

Bayonet lugs were included in one of the original drafts of this POS law, modeled after the '94 federal AW ban. But since CA defines a SAW as having one evil feature instead of two evil features like the federal law, it would have banned M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, SKSs, and "normal" looking guns that have bayonet lugs. So they compromised and dropped bayonet lugs from the CA ban. Mighty nice of them wasn't it? [rolleyes]

Yes bayonet lugs are legal here in California but only on bolt action rifles. [;)]
