If you watch it again you can see people running away over to your left right next to the Big crane.

Shit man. Hope nobody got hurt.

Sounds like Aussies or Kiwis.

So, what happened, and why did everything go like that?

Sounds like the brakes let loose on the large blue crane on the right which was holding up the boom of the bigger white crane to the right.

Wonder what project that was for?  The white crane is a biggun and since that was in the middle of a field they were either building something right there or planned on moving the white crane into position at an unseen area off camera.

Either way that would be a massive AWW FUCK run moment.

This crane is big but compared to those behemoths it is a small crane:

Roughly 300' of stick and very expensive to rent.  I couldn't imagine how much those in the OP cost to rent!

That black smoke must be one of the motors burning up from the cable's moving so fast.

that....is a bad day.

There were 5 cranes involved in that pick and the big thing that fell over first looked to be a big drag line.

3 cranes trying to help lift one... no wonder something went wrong

All BS aside, I would have tried the same thing

Hopefully nobody was hurt.

But I really did like at the end how the steel was ringing like a bell.

When the big white one came down,  the end of it was knocking braces out of the boom on the right like nobody's business.  You can kind of see them snapping off

and flying away at HOLY CRAP speeds.   You can hear them snapping off, too.

Hopefully nobody got killed there,  but there's a good chance that the site foreman killed someone afterwards, if he didn't off himself if he was guilty of the big goof.

Hopefully no one got hurt, that is a lot of metal flying around. Until you see one of those drag lines (big white crane) in person you don't have an appreciation for how big they really are.

Anyone else notice the crane on the right's diesel running away in a black cloud...

It looks like a couple of large cranes assembling a huge dragline as opposed to a massive crane.

usually, very well.... but how else do you learn, if not by failure?

Had a crane guy tell me last week that he stood behind his work, but would not stand under it.

That was cool, but I think this one's better. It's like watching the Three Stooges.  Powerlines and lack of counterbalances = hilarious.
