Lots of handguns have decent capacity with 12+ rounds of 9mm, .40, .45 etc.

Why isn't a decent .22 out that could hold 20 plus rounds...I figure that you could fit a shit ton of .22's inside a high capacity double stack magazine.

ETA: I'm talking about a magazine that fits in the grip.

The problem is the rim.

Look at all the high capacity .22 LR mags, they are single stack curved mags.  Even the majority of the 10rd pistol mags are angled to overcome the rim, except the Ruger mags, which are pretty thick (but are limited to 10 rounds).

The new Kel-Tec pistol has a capacity of 30 .22 mags, if they could do the same with .22LR it would be great.

Rimmed cartridges are a bitch to stack, which is why .22 mags are curved, or rotary, or slanted at an angle.

If they can do it with the Mag, then its possible with the LR...

I don't think the rim has anything to do with it. I think it's just that nobody that has the ability to bring one to market wants to do that. KT is supposed to be bringing the new pistol out in 22LR later, so hopefully we'll get one.

That has always annoyed me, they could at the least do a 15 rounder.

Magnym Research had the Mountain Eagle that held 15.

No, the rim has everything to do with it...

And one of the reasons for that is the rim. The rim complicates making a reliable product, especially one that doesn't have significant curvature to the magazine. The added difficulty pushes the idea into the "not worth it" category most of the time.

Sure about that? The Bren did just fine with the rimmed .303.

It's the rim, and probably the fact that the rim is the ignition source.

Designing a pistol that functioned with a high cap magazine would be one thing, making it safe, as in lawsuit-proof, might be another.

What would be cool is an inexpensive .22 cal straightwalled rimless centerfire with .22mag case capacity. Probably doable.

I would like a hicap pistol in .30carbine, I've got big hands anyway.

Once again, you are ignoring the fact that its a curved extended magazine.  Please explain to me how you are going to fit said magazine into a pistol grip...

Is the new one from KT curved? If so, the same way they did. If not, then it obviously doesn't have to be curved.

It's easier with the .22 magnum, the longer round, the shallower the compound angle between the rounds, the curve is less severe.

However, word is on the KTOG board that Kel-Tec does have tentative plans for a .22LR version sooner or later, if sales, tooling, production all pans out etc. The reason being, 15 rounds is just barely do-able in a straight magazine without a curve, and the PLR-30 and the earlier Grendel P-30 used a magazine with a ridge down the centerline that separates the two 15-round columns to minimize rim tangling etc.

How would you feel about a pistol with an AM180 style magazine?  A small 20 or 25 round mag that kept the gun light and balanced?

Wow!  I had that same thought when I saw the Keltec.  I prefer .22 LR over .22 mag any day of the week.

Rimmed .303 cartridges don't have thier primers in the rim either.  Squish primer in mag = bad.

Oh Yeah.  Calico M110 is the freaky 80's (still manufactured though) one with the helical tube magazines.  Holds a hundred rounds of 22.lr.

Come to think of it, a Ruger Charger equipped with the Nordic Components AR22 kit (sans stock) would make a heck of a neat little range toy.

You'd have to devise some kind of sling swivel thing to install where the buffer tube normally does to make sure there's no NFA shaky ground, but it would be really cool.
