Oh, for chrissake.
And on the off-chance they win, do they really think Iraq is gonna say, "Oh, drat! Now we have to send those people money! Ahmed, ask them if they want cash or camels!"?

Doesn't the US still have iranian assets frozen?

I sorta remember hearing this money would be used to payout lawsuits.  Anyone have any recollection of this?

"A 1996 law allows American terror victims to seek damages from nations that sponsor terrorism if those countries are on the State Department's list of terrorist states. The lawsuit claims that permission was retroactive, and notes that Iraq was placed on the State Department's list in 1990."

I would still say the iranians are under no obligation to pay anyone.  Unless, of course there are frozen assets which can be dispersed for these purposes.

This is almost like those blonde girls who sued that "Sultan Of Brunei" dude for allegedly holding them against their will in his country.  Having sex with them or whatever.  They filed a lawsuit against him ( somehow ) in federal court and he never showed up.  Did they issue an arrest warrant for him or something?[rolleyes]

I don't know what their chances are with the lawsuit, but for an interesting read related to their claim...

Some may remember David Schippers mentioned in the article, he was the chief investigative counsel for the House of Representatives Judiciary Council during Klinton's impeachment in the House.
