I'm just curious to what the general consensus on ARFCOM is regarding caffeine intake. Some people say they need it every day to keep going others never take it at all.

Where do you stand?

I de-caffeinated last summer.  I sleep better.  I don't have to take Nexium any more.  My hair has grown in thicker (on my head; really).  Lots of other little health issues dissappeared.  I can live without it.

I used to drink a pot of coffee for breakfast, then keep going all day (with more pots)

I've had zero or near zero caffeine intake for the past few years though. the transition sucked for me... I imagine it was even worse for those around me. (180/110 BP - stopped so my head would not explode - no choice)

A cup or two in the morning to wake up. If I don't have it there's a minor morning headache & limited crankyness for a few days.

I like having my daily Rockstar. I don't need it and can function fine with water/milk, but it's tasty and definitely helps me focus at work a bit better, as well as power through my workouts.

I quit using caffeine about a year ago.   So I do just fine without it.

I don't like caffeine, it makes me feel crappy, especially on an empty stomach.

I have to drink my iced tea in the afternoon to get going.

In the cold winter months it is vital to my survival … I typically give it up for most of the Summer believe it or not. I'm not even sure how, it seems so vital to basic life function at the moment. Seems once I'm waking up and the bedroom is 75-80 degrees I just don't need the caffeine anymore. Might have an iced coffee on a hot afternoon as a tret, but that's only once, maybe twice a week.

I thought I needed it, until I quit smoking.

I thought coffee would help to make quitting cigarettes impossible too.
Turns out, I don't need anything.

My caffeine is black tea, so it's a pretty healthy intake of caffeine.

I seem to be moving into the "one cup of coffee a day" thing lately though.

When I get up in the AM I make a cup of tea, sit on my ass for about 20 minutes sipping the tea and pondering the day.

Green tea, peppered kippered beef sticks and blueberry PopTarts are my favorite hunting snacks. Coffee and hot chocolate make me piss too much.

I can either drink my Coke, or I can get migraine-level headaches.

Haha how many "I NEED IT DAILY!" caffiene users accuse anybody of partaking in MJ now and then to be addicted pot heads? lol

I get addicted to caffeine easy and will get headaches, etc if I don't have it.  So, I avoid it, or at least avoid making a habit of it.

Free coffee at work Keurig machines...  But I have never used it.  I only drink coffee socially, once in a blue moon.

I will, however, grab some of this (see below) if I know I've got a big project or presentation I have to hammer on for 12-24 hours straight.  Helps with energy, focus:

But that's really only every few weeks/months.  Not every day or every week.

This.  It's not that I can't function.  It's just I'll get a major headache.  I'm not as bad as I used to be.  I used to drink Dr. Peppers like water.  During that time if I hadn't had a Dr. by 10am...pounding headache.  I've since weened myself from caffeine (mostly) and only drink one Dr. a day in the morning (I don't drink coffee).  Now if I skip it, it's usually the evening till I start getting a slight headache.

Pot is not addicting in the same way as caffeine.  caffeine is similar to tobacco in how you get addicted to it.  I often think it's harder to kick than tobacco too.

I get a raging headache without pop.  I am not a coffee drinker.

I did until I got hooked on K2.

Seriously, I drink a pot of coffee every morning, but can't say I "need" the caffeine. I can do fine without it, I just enjoy the taste and drinking it.

I have two cups of coffee in the morning at work, and that's my total caffeine intake for the day.  Sometimes on the weekends I get up, get to doing things, and forget to have coffee.  By lunchtime I'll have a headache, and a dose of acetominophen takes care of it.

I start most days off with 2 cups of coffee, and that's generally it for my caffeine intake for the day.  Very occasionally I'll have a Pepsi or Mt Dew later, but keep that pretty limited.  There are some health benefits from moderate comsumption of coffee and caffeine, especially if you are active or exercise.

Why?

I think the health benefits, when used in moderation, far outweigh the side effects.

No coffee, but I go through a couple three 12oz sugarfree Red Bulls a day. My back is thoroughly fucked, so between the vicodin, flexeril and lyrica on top of the sweet ambrosia that is Red Bull, it ends up a wash.

I kicked my caffeine habit several months ago.  Now I eat breakfast and if I feel like coffee I'll drink some, but decaf only.
