Go rent the movie, "Tank," with James Garner... he's a Sergeant in the Army that gets transferred to a new base, and his hobby is working on his restored Sherman tank. Trouble arises in this new town, and he is "forced" to take the tank and take care of the situation. Entertaining.

Do a search for "armored vehicles for sale." You'd be surprised at what is up for grabs. I found an M47 in Birmingham, AL going for $155,000, and an M548 (with a little work-the ULIMATE camper) in OH for $18,500. The best deal, though, was a UNIMOG for $7500.
