What's the deal with this "Image Code Verification" whenever I try to IM or Email someone it won't let me?

Need to enter the value you see in the image, in the box next to it. Required to avoid problems with abuses which we have had recently.

There should be a 5 character value shown in the verification image which needs to go into the text box to the left of the image. (The image changes each time you load the page.)
