Tried to post a reply on another board, with an "evil grin" smilie: [}:d] and it came up as just the brackets and characters.  Tried several with the same results.
I tried:
"evil grin" [}:d]
"evil smile" [}:)]
"smart @ss" [;d]
"big smile" [:d]
"smile" [:)]

Only the "smile" showed up as a graphic, except that "evil smile" showed up once but as a different picture (which I couldn't locate on the legend).

Is there a trick I'm missing here?

It all makes sense when you look at it like that.  I kinda noticed that the ones with the 'd' weren't working, but didn't think of trying upper-case.  I was trying to use the codes exactly as they appeared on the legend.

You should probably fix the legend sometime to show the codes in upper case.  And make the pic for evil smile match the legend, or vice versa.

Doesn't look like capitals to me.

Could this possibly be a brower issue?  Doesn't seem likely.  I'm using Netscape 4.75.  (I know you don't like Netscape, but it should still get the text right...)

Yeah.  I tried logging in from a different computer with IE and they do come up in caps.  Then I looked at the source with Netscape and it shows them in caps.

Another one for the browser x-files: with Netscape 4.75 you can't tab to the LOG IN button, but with IE 5.0 you can.

That just leaves the issue of the different evil smiles.  If the "}:)" version gives this [}:)] (icon_smile_evil.gif) then how do you get the one shown for that code in the legend (smiley_evilSmile.gif)?

Well I'm using IE and they show up lower case, I just came in here to find the answer to this very question. I'm also using a Mac though.
