It can be done, it's always been a matter of, "is it worth the extra overhead."

On most forums, I would imagine that it's not much of a problem, the fact this site was coded to utilize the power and speed of a database makes it a very real possibility, BUT the sheer volume of traffic this place generates, scares me a bit.

When things with the network are settled, I am willing to give it a try and see if we can survive without a painful hit to performance. If not, we'll just go back to the way it is now.

Either way, when the Archive Server comes online (yeah what in 7 years... rofl) it will contain this ability.

We've got a lot of dev in the works to address this stuff and just need time to test it and how much more traffic it will generate. I think when the new BW comes in and we rebuild our network, this will go live for testing and perhaps for good.
