I found the sub-forum!

Right now, I'm trying 1792 Small Batch for the first time.  (its a bit light for my tastes but seems like good quality and nice flavor)

Stagg Jr. (neat) followed by a few Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier.  First time trying the Stag.  Obviously a potent little guy @134 proof, but I love the nose on it.  Could do without the acetone bite on the finish.

That'll drop off as it gets some air in the bottle. The staggs age nicely with some air to them. It is one of my favorite bourbons to throw in a decanter.

Had my first pour of Pappy Van Winkle 15 year old last night!

Out celebrating the birthday with a buddy's family. He's the reason I've started exploring different bourbon this year. Really knowledgeable.

The festive mood helped the bite of the $75 a pour cost. .

The Pappy turned out to be everything I hoped and had heard it would be. It was fantastic.

@FMJunkie - how is that bourbon? I didn't want to buy it due to the higher price than what I'm used to paying.

I'm drinking Maker's 46 and Pepsi. Because I am pondering things and will drink a rum and Pepsi after this.

I find I'm drinking it fairly often.  Its pretty straightforward vanilla/caramel flavors.  Fairly thick mouthfeel, almost syrupy and it doesn't fade quickly or leave any odd aftertaste.  (just leaves that same sweet flavor behind)  Its not a light drinker but I find it fairly easy to drink, if that makes any sense.  I definitely prefer it neat vs. iced.  Its not going to wow you by any means but I'd say its a solid drink.

My wife likes Maker's 46 a lot but thinks the Michter's is just "OK."  (said with a bit of a snarl on her face... )  Her other big favorites are Blanton's and EH Taylor.  Take that silly woman's opinion for whatever its worth.

Whistle Pig Old World Cask Finish "Bespoke Blend"

This is interesting stuff - their 12 yr old rye finished in a mix of barrels:  41% Madeira, 50% French Sauternes & 9% Port.  Lots of flavor here, and very smooth-drinking.  Sweeter (fruity sweet) than basic WP, as you'd probably expect.  I like WP's 10 yr, I love their Boss Hog and I dig this, too.

Bib & Tucker - I picked this up on a whim a short while ago.  Honestly, half because I really liked the bottle and cork...    That made me look it up online, though, and it seemed worth a shot.

Its different.  Light, SUPER easy to drink.  Not the vanilla/caramel/sweetness most bourbon seems to offer.  Its thin, almost smells like a bit of grass or hay.  Taste is equally-light and has this super faint licorice kind of note.  (and I mean very faint)  Its kind of cool, I don't hate it.

And I still like the simplicity of the bottle!

Tonight I got a little crazy.  Had a pour of 1792, wild turkey 101 and eagle rare. All while smoking a CI legends drew estates copper.   The weather outside on the pourch today was wonderful.

I think I like the eagle rare, then the WT 101 then the 1792.

They were all enjoyable though.  Sometimes you just need to drink quality less than $30 bourbons.

Drinking MM Private Select.

A little disappointing, doesn't feel like 110 proof and the flavors taste a little fake.

It's okay but in my opinion,  not worth  $70.

Can't go wrong with regular BT.  As I posted above, I had an under $30 night and loved them.

Sometimes I think I could survive on just the regular under $30 staples but then I remember how extra good some of the more expensive pours can be.

I completely agree.  I've settled down into a few staples for my everyday drink:

Eagle Rare on ice
Buffalo Trace both neat and iced
Michter's US 1
Old Beezer neat (not a "mainstream" but damn I like this @$36 and bought a bunch of bottles)

I try to mix in one glass of a whole bunch of other stuff from time to time.  Mostly because I really love variety and appreciate all kinds of different things, so I just want to experience them.

Same with cigars...  I have a big 'ol cabinet style humidor full of stuff, with a big stock of Bone Crushers and Liga #9s as my staple smokes.  (though, I haven't been smoking them lately because of some dental issues/work in progress )
