Awesome collection

Are they all in use? Or just a couple?

They are all hand-honed and shave-ready.

I have a full beard and haven't shaved in three years.

All but one (third from bottom, right side) are rehab jobs, mostly from Ebay.

I've got the same one as your top left. I bought it years ago but never used it. It needs to be sharpened and honed. I have no experience with one either, so that's kept me from getting any work done to it. I've been more than happy using my DE razors all this time.

Well you all seem like the guys to ask, so here goes.
I would like to try a straight razor but the prospect of spending $150+ on something i may not like to use is not a pleasant one.

Have any of you tried or had experience with the straight razors with the replaceable blades? Seems like it might be a little less expensive rout to go
to see if i like it or not, and if i do like it then drop the coin on a good razor.

That is called a shavette.

http://www.amazon.com/Dovo-Stainless-Shavette-Straight-Replaceable/dp/B001GMTKCK

They use half of a DE blade.

They work well, and are inexpensive.

Not quite the same panache as a straight razor, but easy to get into, and no honing, stropping etc.

My barber uses one to touch up the back of the neck after a cut.

Yep thats what i had in mind.
I kinda figured it wouldnt be quite the same. But before i drop the coin on a good razor i want to try it out.
Just really didnt want to drop a ton of money on a nice razor only to find out that i hate shaving with it

Thanks!

Nah, just like any other. Look at the flats on the spine of the blade.

It's not much, but it was my Grandfathers.  He used it up until the day he dies and now I use it.

Not much?

I would kill to have my grandpa's straight razor.  He passed when I was 21, decades ago, miss him so much.

You sir, have the best razor in the thread.
