What is the best temperature controller to use with a stand up freezer? I got the freezer for free from a family that was moving down the street and I would like to use it for kegs. Since the kegs were a gift from a former boss and the freezer was free I am trying to do this an inexpensively as possible.

I have friends and family on my case to get back to cider making and kegging seems infinitely better/easier than bottle carbing a bunch of cider for the holidays.

Thanks,

You can wire up a STC-1000 yourself or get the single stage johnson control.  Google those for details, depends on what you want to put into it.

I have the Johnson on my keezer currently and it couldn't be easier to use. http://www.hvacpw.com/Johnson-Controls-A419-p/joha419abg-3c.htm?gclid=CjwKEAjwkf-gBRCd-b2m2aOo0EQSJABMeQDkziugDzaDLx5ZoXcTrJR2cnuTKm4rsWsC3SVC6Blo6BoCaV3w_wcB&gdftrk=gdfV26823_a_7c409_a_7c1038_a_7cJOHA419ABG_d_3C

You could also use the Auber Instruments controller. This offers another 115v plug for a heating control if you ever wanted to use it on a fermentation chamber. http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=334

STC-1000 is what I use.  It's cheaper and pretty easy to wire up.  There are some good youtube videos if you need help.  Mines been working great for a few years now.

Thanks for the advice, the JCI looks pretty simple and I'll look up an STC100

I have a Johnson A419 on my upright freezer.  It's pretty simple and pretty much plug and play.

I used a bunch of Auber Instrument controllers at work for my glycol control panel.  Pretty simple as well but I had to build and wire a box for them.

Everything mentioned in this thread already will work...It all comes down to how much time you want to spend on it.  Like I said, the A419 with power cord already attached is pretty much plug and play.

I built a BrewPi after my STC-1000 recently died.
