I am working with some of the folks (via my dad and his photography club) on photographing the eclipse that will be passing over my AOR.

Good directions here

I am going to automate my camera to take a series of pics during the totality as it passes me (My driveway gets 1:42 of total coverage).  Take note at the exposures, you can't use your camera on automatic and get the correct exposures and have the correct ISO settings.  You have to adjust it remotely via a computer controller (my pop's friend makes cables for it and has written a program) and I will be using his software/hardware.

I am going to test run it a few times before the event of course.

Is anyone else in the path going to do any cool things while it passes over?

This guy gives great info, in fact all of his You Tubes are top shelf.

We were in the 85% totality zone for the one last year.  Thinking hard about travelling to KY for the 2024 one.

Here's a cut'n'pasted 9-frame sequence:

And here's my 5-minute intervalometer sequence.  Clouds ruined it.

Here's why we have such cool eclipses on Earth.

My solar rig.  D500, Tamron 150-600mm, and some solar film in a home-made frame.  Fricytion fit onto the Tamron's hood.  I've also got frames built for the 24-120, 11-20, and 70-300 mm lenses.

And not eclipse related, but here's a 4-minute intrevalometer sequence of the sun and moon on the same day.

ETA 4 stop neutral density sheet.

Might take more than one layer.

Just stack them up.

Is that actually optical quality or window quality?

The Thousand Oaks solar film is optical quality.  All my sun shots (and the homemade filter pictured above) are made with it.

One 12x12 sheet gave me enough to make filters for
150-600
70-300
24-120
11-20

Easy with some corrugated cardboard or black foam board, an exacto knife, and a little time and thought.  Some fit inside the lens hood and some fit on the hood.  There's plenty of YouTube videos about making filters.
