I sing a capella and . . . I hope I sing well, but I enjoy it.

What I am asking for is if y'all know songs that lend themselves to a capella that are associated with war or talk about war.

Such as:

Only ones that really lend themselves to an unaccompanied baritone.  I would like to develop my skills a bit, so something other than folk type music would be welcome as well.

One of my favorites. PP&M have already done most of the work for you too.

Rest in Peace, Mary.

The Cruel War is raging, Johnny has to fight
I want to be with him from morning to night.
I want to be with him, it grieves my heart so,
Won't you let me go with you?
No, my love, no.

Tomorrow is Sunday, Monday is the day
That your Captain will call you and you must obey.
Your captain will call you it grieves my heart so,
Won't you let me go with you?
No, my love, no.

I'll tie back my hair, men's clothing I'll put on,
I'll pass as your comrade, as we march along.
I'll pass as your comrade, no one will ever know.
Won't you let me go with you?
No, my love, no.

Oh Johnny, oh Johnny, I fear you are unkind
I love you far better than all of mankind.
I love you far better than words can e're express
Won't you let me go with you?
Yes, my love, yes.

Yes, My Love, Yes.

Doesn't really work for a man to be singing that one unaccompanied . . .

Hmm . . . I lik Sgt. McKenzie a lot, but I think the background music sets a lot fo the tone for the song.  I'll look up the lyrics and think about it.

That particular rendition is simply a single tone in the background (why I chose it over other versions) so that should help.

I can appreciate that.

Anybody else?

I thought a Cappella is a term applied to singing without any accompaniment.
I don't know of any about war but the best I have heard was the one in the movie " Once upon a time in the west"
Takes a lot of talent and wide vocal range most pop singers couldn't do this.

Sorry for not responding for so long.

Yes, a cappella is with no accompaniment, just voice.  That is what I intend to do.

ETA:  and I will not be singing that . . . um . . . song.  Nothing personal, mind you, but that isn't something that I can sing and have it make sense.

Kind of a protest theme (if that matters) but astounding a Cappella harmony on this one:

Not a capella but I think it wouldn't lose any of it's feeling if it was:

In the OP .  Just by the Fury's rather than DKM.

And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda is a very moving song about WWI; The Clancy Brothers did an excellent near-acapella version years ago.

Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya; First version I ever heard was by The Clancy Brothers, DKM did a more recent version that may be easier to find, but isn't as good IMO

Faraway Coast; by DKM

Not a great recording (or rip, I should say).

Couldn't find a decent Youtube of Waltzing Matilda.  The Aussie Bush Band does a striking version, but it is quite old.
