very cool indeed. If you have the time you need to hop on out to Dayton, Ohio to the "museum of the United States Air Force". Lighting isn't much better than the SAC museum, probably worse, but the quantity of aircraft there is probably only second to the Smithsonian. They also have the presidential aircraft on display as well. Worth the trip.

As an old SAC warrior, that was awesome! I got to guard an SR-71 at RAF Greenham-Common in 1983 after the Air Tatto that year.

I just wish there were a closer airfield to it. I ended up flying to Eppley in Omaha & renting a car to get the rest of the way. |

Millard airport isn't a bad field and would have saved you about 15 miles of driving, but yeah the Ashland area is short on public use fields. |

Millard didn't seem to have much in the line of easily available transportation. I was able to rent a car from Eppley for not terribly much, and I saw nothing listed at Millard. I was there long enough that taking a crew car wouldn't have been nice. |

Note to everyone! They have RV/big truck parking there. The bookstore,while not as good as WPAFM,has some good books. Got a BIG book on the B-36,the fiancee(ex)knew what I bought,as she checked the bank balance that day.

That's a great post............thanks for sharing!! Especially the B-36 stuff, since Dad was a mechanic on them while he was in, 1950-1954.
He use to tell how cold it was working on them out in Rapid City SD, and there was always a LOT of work they needed. But one thing he always mentioned with his outfit was PRIDE. He use to say how damn cold it was at times, but you still went out there and "timed mags" or whatever the beast needed. He said the worst thing that ever happened was preparing a bomber for a flight, the plane would taxi out and do its run-up, and then taxi back in with a problem. That always really bugged the shit out of him since they were such a proud outfit, and took that personally the failure of the flight.............so, they suited back up and went back to work. He was really proud to have served with SAC. Thanks again for the awesome pics.
