I have put new brake pads on my old toyota p/u and a few other cars but never a grand am....I am at work right now and was going to pick up new brake pads on the way home, but is there any special tool that I might need to get?

not for the fronts. Just the rears. Unless they changed it, GM uses an allen wrench type bolt to hold the calipers on.

Also if it has abs, don't drive fluid back when you compress the piston, open a bleeder and let the fluid come out that way.

If it is an 04 it most likely is a TORX and not Allen key to get the piston off.
