About 1” thick, rough cut, and I think it’s been stained or finished somehow. Top one shows the back side, the bottom stack shows the front side as it was installed.

Was used as an interior wall covering in my 70’s era house. Installed vertically in sort of a board and batten. Thinking about salvaging instead of sending to the dump.

Any idea what species it might be?

Eta, here’s how it looked installed. Not sure what that style would be called.

Pine, darkened with age.

Rough cut pine.  Measure the board widths, curious to see.

All over the place. Most are either 7.5” or 9.5” wide.

I’ve got a bunch of this stuff. Seems silly to toss it, but it might be a lot of work to make it usable.

Put it on Craigslist and call it "Reclaimed".

Some hippy chick will buy it and make furniture out of it.

I like the outlet up the wall... Good for cutting hair.

Second pic, upper middle... is that a show pan installed on the ceiling?

S. yella pine.

White pine would not darken that much.

They had a smoke detector hard wired to that. Probably as old as the house itself. Passed purchase inspection

The ceiling is 1/4” plywood trimmed with more of this rough cut stuff all painted white. We’ve lived here for a year, sick of looking at it.

Ripping it all out, walls and subfloor included. Starting over, Adding a third bedroom and getting rid of the squeaky floors. This is the second story, first story was gutted and redone in the last 10 years.

Looks like it has open pores.   Need to see a clean end cut from a board
Open visible pores to naked eye wouldn’t be pine

I figured out the problem with the gapping and lack of straight edges.

I would definitely upgrade that tool set, post haste. Those walls look like a little kid did it.

I was going to say it’s plank and batten until I went back and looked at the pic again.

Right or wrong, I remember one main message from that book - it is almost impossible to look at wood and be certain of it species, a microscopic examination is required.

I suppose it is worth having for some folks.  For many or even most, ... meh!

I buy lumber whose species is well known, even if it is an exotic wood.
