Day 1 down. I'm definitely not a professional. The mosaic tile wasn't spaced great from the factory on the mesh backing, hopefully it looks ok when the grout goes on (edit - and there were definitely a couple of gaps I didn't do great on anyway)..

I have an old bench top blasting cabinet that needed a stand. I had a bunch of 3 foot drops of 2 inch square tube, so that’s what I used.

Making progress on the tile, this side is done except for sealing and caulking it. Have about half of the rest of the kitchen to finish grouting.

Sorry no pic.
Almost died today. Mostly from embarrassment though. Had some leaves build up in a roof valley enough to possibly dam water, so I knew I had to clear it sooner than later. Metal roof. Blew the leaves off successfully carefully avoiding the moisture under the leaves, but right as I'm about done and at the bottom of the valley gust of wind blows the water/wet leaves all over the entire area above and behind me. I'm glad it was the back of the house so no one saw me body-sliding in retreat up and across the entire roof. |

I am remodeling my shop in the basement. The work bench and reloading bench are in place. Now I need to build the shelving for my shop. The shelve will be between 9 and 10 ft long.
How much distance between the shelves should I keep for ammo cans? The shelve will have at least four shelves but could go as high as 6 shelves depending on spacing. The bottom 2 shelves will be for ammo cans. Misc. stuff on the shelves above that. |

Resealed hydroboost unit on the Suburban yesterday. Damn, im getting too old for anything that involves working under the dash. Next stop, reseal job on the steering box. So glad i learned to do this crap as a kid. I have better things to do with my money than a) pay someone to do it, or, b) pay for reman units that may or may not be properly reman'd.

I have wanted to buy a welding positioner for a while, but can’t justify the cost for how infrequently I’d use it. A guy I follow on YouTube has a manual version and I copied much of his.
I had some stainless drops from some circles I had water jet cut.  Attached FileI welded a shaft on one and a tubing receiver to the other. I also welded a rounded shaft to the bottom that fits inside the grounding plate.  Attached FileI drilled a hole for the shaft in my table.  Attached FileI turned some grooves every half inch on the face so it is easier to center work. In place  Attached FileI used a shaft collar to hold the torch with an indicator base.  Attached FileIt is weird using the pedal and moving the turntable with the other foot. I’m probably buying a positioner anyway.

I have some pipe stands that work great for holding round tube, but not so good for square material. They sell different heads, but I could just use some 4 inch channel to make a flat surface. I was out of 4 inch channel.

Continuing my multi-year shutter project.
I’ve made 49 so far. This is a set of 4 for my dining room, identical to 4 for a computer room. The slats are 3-1/2” wide. They shutters are 67” long. I’ve been working on this set of 8 since November last year, finished them last month. Finally getting started on installing them. After hanging the lateral shutters I adjust the hinges to get the shutters parallel and flush, then I have to make hanging stiles for the inner 2, leaving enough room for the gaps. It’s such an enormous amount of work, I’m not sure I’d do them again knowing what I know now. It’s like eating an elephant.

Fiddling around all day to install the inner 2 shutters.
The one on the right was twisted so much the lower corner was 1/2” off. This is way too much to make adjustments for. 1/16” you can get away with. I twisted the shutter in the opposite way till I heard a “POP”, which was one joint cracking loose. I glued a shim in the joint and the twist went away.

Meat birds are taking over the proper coop. Took this old wagon and flipped it over for a coop conversion. Everything is galvanized and HEAVY DUTY. This outta last a few decades.

Finished my yard project for the summer. We bought our house in 2018 with no yard, just a big dirt and weed pile. Got everything finished except for this little corner area, which was still mostly a weed farm.
Started working on it in late spring, after pulling the weeds this is what we had...  Had to move a sprinker line, set the 6 x 6 posts, and then place about 2.5 tons of flagstone. Filled it with polymeric sand and then finished up the pergola. My neighbors helped me move the 36" cowboy cauldron into place yesterday (weighs almost 200lbs).  Still have to stain the wood before winter. I was planning on planting some trees and doing a bit more to the pergola, but we are selling our house and moving in December so that's as far as I am taking it. I have 4 nice, cedar adirondack chairs in the garage that were meant for this space, but I haven't even unboxed them since we will be gone soon. There are things I would do differently but overall it came out ok. Going to have the inaugural fire in it this weekend and maybe grill some tomahawk steaks just because. |

For this most recent project I built a burn barrel which, much like those popular backyard fire pits, provides secondary combustion to whatever your burning. It actually works, and burns significantly hotter, faster, and cleaner than the old “punch holes in a barrel and light a fire” method.
 Smokeless Burn Barrel I legitimately wish we had a YouTube forum (or other outlet for YT vid discussion) here as I genuinely look for feedback on this stuff. Filming with a phone, sound, editing etc. *without people getting the impression that I’m just mining for clicks. ETA pics of the project:   |

This is a lower entry door in an unconditioned space (almost like a garage that’s not a garage). Only had a storm door up until now. Had to cut 6” off the bottom of a steel door to make it fit the size of the short room.
