Ok, got a 42in plasma from Costco 42PF7320A/37 two nights ago.

In Virtual Surround Sound the right speaker (when facing tv) has a vibe when some deep bass hits (not much but its there).  Not noticed when set to Stereo

When TV is on - perfect
When TV is off - high pitched noise (like something only a dog would hear) as if the capacitors (whatever) were constantly charging.  Unplug the set from the wall and noise goes away (discharges)

virtual surround on 2 speakers is going to sound like ass. Get real speakers. VSS will get you almost no bass support and the treble as you have already found is a bit... unusual. try turning off VSS and check again. Come back with results.
