I liked it. Definitely would see it again.
ETA - LOTS of NYPD action in there, I think most of you guys will appreciate it but remember....IT'S A MOVIE! |

+1
Amazing film. One of the best movies I've seen in a LONG time. |

Movie forum is that way

Just got back from watching it. I'm not a Spike Lee fan, but what a damn good movie!
Great gun porn in there as well. MP5s, M4 "wit beamz" and Aimpoints. Excellent movie. A must-watch! Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster (who was looking good ) and Clive Owen all do an awesome job. 9.5/10 from me. Half a point off for some unrealistic police procedures..... |
Spike Lee does great work when he's not trying to direct a comedy or preach. "Clockers" and "25th Hour" are two other examples. |
If he'd just STFU and continue making excellent movies I wouldn't dislike him so much. Forgot to add that Willem Dafoe was excellent as well. |

Saw it tonight with my wife. EXCELLENT movie. Very intelligent plot, great dialogue and damned funny in places. I did call a couple of the twists, but I am good at that usually.

I chose V for Vendetta over Inside Man last night, and don't regret that decision (Okay, you may think VfV bashes conservative Christians, but it's really more of an anti-tyranny message, like 1984, than anything). I will still, however, probably see Inside Man at another time.

I thought the movie was ok but the storyline was stupid. Got tired of every cop holding his rifle at shoulder ready for what would have been days, snipers were standing holding rifles off hand ready to snipe. I also do not like movies that flash forward and backwards in time. What was the point of the robbery? If he wanted the bank guy to pay for being a NAZI collaborator he would have released the files, he kept those to bargain with, but turned the stolen diamond ring over to the cop to investigate and expose the banker as a Nazi, or did he give the diamond to the cop so he could bargain for his gold shield? Never quiet figured that out. If they were stealing money why take diamonds the cash would have been easier to spend. I would have to watch the first part again to see if they really brought in enough supplies to build a false wall. Jodie Fosters character was stupid, they made her out as someone who solved problems for people. Kind of like the A-team if she solves your problem then you have to help in the future to help her solve someone elses problem.
I like Larry the Cable Guy Health Inspector better. |
How about not revealing 3/4ths of the movie for those that haven't seen it, champ. |
Just saw it, and I liked it. 7 out of ten from me [but I am pickey]
I guess if you don't want to know what a movie is about then you should not read discussion posts about a movie. |

I just saw it to day and it was a good movie. Those were real looking Ak47s for toys.

There were WAY more diamonds than just the ring. He kept most of those. He kept the file to ensure that the banker never attempted to come after him in the future for stealing the diamonds (blackmale). The diamonds were blood money. He left the diamond ring and the note that said "follow the ring" as a good deed to wash any blood from his hands. That way he could relax on the beach with his millions and not feel guilty. He said something in reference to this. He dropped the second diamond into Denzel's pocket on the way out because of pride. Kind of like a "told ya so" (in reference to "I will walk out when I am good and ready") Maybe some respect too? *edit: I think Jodie Foster's character was being portrayed as someone who would exercise her political contacts to solve potentially embarrassing problems for people (for a price of course). Not exactly sure on all of it but this is just how I interpreted it. |

Looks like I'm going to have to edit the title of my post because major parts of the story are revealed.

In reality, they were only doing that when the bank robbers approached the doors.
Then you have bad taste in movies, sad to say. You totally missed the plot, so no wonder you didn't like it. He stole the diamonds rather than the cash because the cash would have been almost impossible to get out of the bank. How the hell is he going to walk out the front door carrying bricks of money? And the diamonds were probably worth HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS. There were like a dozen pouches of them in the safety deposit box. He left the diamond ring for Denzel Washington because he knew the cop was smart and honest enough to make sure Case was exposed. He had plenty of food for a week because they asked for supplies twice and got cases of drinks and food for fifty people. |

Hey Wave, I enjoyed seeing the new ESU protocol for crossing from one side of the bank to the other. Walk directly in front of the line of fire of the doors with 2 ESU guys and a ballistic shield in front of you. Don't bother walking around the block.
On a separate note, I've never seen that orange "Helmets & Vests" tape -- is that stuff real? |

I saw the movie today. It was good until the last 5 minutes. Hell, I could have come up with a better ending than that!
Did anyone catch this line?
just got back from seeing it..... good movie , 1000 times better than that lame VIOLET movie.

Ehh, I'll have a hard time seeing this one, since I can't stand that racist fuck Spike Lee, and his joints (racist and stupid, WTF is a joint?)
I try to avoid anything done by him.... |
I hate Spike Lee too, but this is a damn good flick, not to be missed. |
Not so good imo,
The trick ending was nothing new, and the the item the plot centered on has been done as well. Ditto with the loot from WWII. Lee is a hack at best. He has no new ideas, all his shots are basic or stolen from other movies. The dolly-zoom shot was old when he stole it for X, as was placing the actor on the dolly so he seems to float toward the action. I guess for young guys it appears new, but I have yet to see any originality from him at all. This sell out film just proves to me how poor a film maker he is. Nothing happens. No action. No satisfying double or triple cross. Hell, Michael Bay could have done a better caper flick. Perhaps if all the robbers had been black... nah. |
You must have gone to see "Larry the Cable Guy" by mistake, because you sure didn't see the movie I saw. |
No shit. |
Saw it last week, good movie.
Was dissapointed the AKs turned out to be toys, although in all honesty they looked real to me (meaning the plot just made them out as toys). Hungarian Type III's if I'm not mistaken. The plot was good, but some parts lagged, jodie foster was such an annoying role. |
But she was such a magnificent c*nt. |
to some extent. I still think someone better could have fit that role. She was really good in Flight Plan I thought, just not in this, I think that's the writer's/director's fault though. |
better than 90% of the shit released lately
iItoo did not know it was spike lee film till I got there ,would not have seen if i had known but worth seeing IMO |
MAJOR SPOILER!!!!!!!!
Unless I'm missing something they could have very easily determined who the perps were from the hostages. All they had to do was watch the surveilance video up to the point it's blinded to see who entered the bank as a customer. Then seperate them from those not shown in the video. |
I don't think I've seen any of Lee's movies, as I pretty much have the same feelings about the guy as pzjgr. But since it's getting such good reviews here I guess I'll wait until it comes out on DVD. |
I'm not following you. Are you saying all the bank robbers were Jews, and were 'reclaiming' the diamonds? I liked the movie a lot, nothing like a tightly written crime film for me. I don't know how realistic the NYPD stuff was, but I like Police Procedurals as well, so those scenes were good also. BTW, how does an IR light overload a camera? |
The rabbi dude was intimated to be the son of the banker couple in Paris that the evil guy could have saved and didn't. That's how he knew about the diamonds and the safe deposit box. |
just saw it last night, best movie I've seen in a long time. my take on the diamond in denzel pocket at the end was partly the bad guy's way of saying I told you so, and partly his way of giving him a wedding present. remember in the bank when they were talking, denzel saying his girlfriend wants to get married, but he's broke, and clive owens replying being broke is no excuse for not to get married. well he made it easier for him.
Yeah, They did look real to me too. Did you catch the one that had the sling attached to the cleaning rod? ------ And did anyone else think Denzel's Glock at the end was 100% unloaded? I swear I saw the mag follower. -------- It was a good movie though. |
Not to mention that if all went according to plan, nobody would have known about the diamonds so no BOLO for guys selling diamonds. Only the banker would have known, and he ain't talking. My favorite line..... "oh shit, an ARAB!" |
