Slant pocket shirt would be correct so that leaves insignia...
I'd guess the airborne patch on one shoulder and the patch on the other shoulder with the lighting bolt belong to different units. Not sure they had subdued tape on the pockets then either. Isn't the little airborne patch above the tape supposed to be sewed on the collar? How's that? |

One. Barnes never had an 82nd ABN patch. The 25th ID "electric strawberry" is correct.

I was in when the last of the jungle fatigues were worn, around mid '80s, we could wear them or the camo in sf school. I'm thinking the u.s. army and namepatches should be straight even though the pockets are slanted.
I still have them, will go check after while. |

I have an old shirt of my dads from that era. It's no rip stop. It's a wool / cotton blend. I can only tell by feal since the tags is faded. But it sure ain't rip stop. |

OK, why would there be an infantry patch if he was airborne? I'd guess the infantry patch should not be there....

Early jungle fatigues were made of poplin fabric. The rip stop began to appear in 1968 onwards. The real Barnes probably didn't have ripstop since he was an "old timer". Also nametapes were originally worn straight on pockets. It wasn't until mid to late 1969 that they began wearing them slanted with the pockets (at least in the 25th ID).
As far as a correct movie version, you'd just need a nylon 25th ID patch, twill staff sergeant chevrons and a CIB and jump wings sewn straight to the pocket. |

That was the third thing. Although the above pictures show the correct placement of the CIB (as far as I know, Army guys feel free to correct me) Barnes wore the CIB under the APB in the movie. |

I don't recall him having the 82nd Patch.
But, if he did wear it in the movie, I believe they were a one piece patch in the vietnam era. That is clearly a two piece patch. As far as the placement of the CIB and ABN wings, their placement is optional. There is some leeway, since they are individual awards. They need to be centered, but other than that, which one goes on top is personal preference. |

By Regs CIB (Class 1 badge) is worn above the airborne wings (class 4 badge)
Not since WWII (maybe Korea) has airborne been above CIB. |

I don't recall that being in the regulations... If it was, it was never enforced at Bragg.

It is 670-1 chapter 23. At Ft Bragg since 1960 somebody had wings over a CIB? I would have to call BS on that. |

There is a reason dye never made it past CAPT. He does some good stuff with SOME of the details, but he doesn't know tactics for shit. The scenarios in his movies are laughably bad. |
