Actually I found nursery worker to be the best. You don't have to prepare a lesson, you only have to work on Sundays, and it gets you out of Sunday School and Priesthood.

Out of all the Scout-related callings, 11 year-old leader is the best. You can plan out a whole year's worth of activities and then just repeat the schedule every year, because all the boys leave after one year. Plus you don't have to go to summer camp. |

<Adam Savage>"Well, there's your problem"</Adam Savage> It's alot easier when you're older and already have kids. Especially if your kid is in the nursery. I've never actually had a nursery calling but with four children I've been called to substitute alot.

The first calling I had after getting married was in the nursery. Moved into the ward and the bishop asked me what callings I was willing to serve in. "I'll serve wherever I'm needed," I responded.
Absolutely wore me out every Sunday. Believe it or not, we actually had a pretty good schedule setup for nursery and even had a lesson each Sunday. Had to keep it very short and simple, but my partner and I did it.There was a little girl, Elizabeth, who cried when her parents dropped her off for nursery. I'd pick her up and sing to her, and next thing I knew she wanted me to hold and carry her every single Sunday. Sweet angel of a girl. I think that's why I named my first girl Elizabeth. Oh, and don't get too comfortable in the nursery. I was in the nursery for just a few months when they called me to serve in a singles ward bishopbric.

Currently the only assistant clerk in my Singles branch. Probably one of the weirdest dynamics you'll ever run across, but my father was called to serve in the branch while I was on my mission, and now I assist him. He does a lot of the "heavy lifting," but I do a lot of stuff to take pressure off--count in sacrament meeting, handle tithing at the end of the day, request records, cut checks, etc. A lot of the little stuff so he doesn't go crazy. We both stay busy with 2 military bases and everything else providing for a really high turn-over rate.

Yes, we just barely (in the last 2-3 weeks) had 4 or 5 people (3 AF and one Army and maybe somebody else) come back from deployments. That brings the number down from 20 deployed to about 16 or so. There's about 130ish people on the rosters. My dad is retired Army, so he is able to keep up on what the military folks are up to, and update/send out records accordingly. We do stay mighty busy though.

Branch Emergency Prep Coordinator We had a great Branch picnic at the range a couple of months ago. The RS was the driving force, of course. A number of the sisters wanted hands on training in how to use firearms. |

I am the financial clerk and 12-13 year old Sunday School teacher. In a small branch so I get double duty. The wife is Primary chorister and cub den leader. She just got released from Primary president.
I would love to be the emergency preparedness person, but it keeps going to elderly ladies who really don't know or do anything in it. I have said that I would help on it, but the branch pres. thinks I would have everyone toting guns, storing ammo, etc., what's wrong with that I ask him. He usually tunes me out then. The thing is that we are in a small rural branch and most of us hunt, and all be a few have guns, the president being one that does not. |

Ward clerk and shelter manager, assistant stake computer specialist, ward amateur radio operator KE4YTA. Ward website administrator. I also help with weapons familiarization for the scouts. Wife is the Primary President.

Ok sorry for the thread hijack but I just wanted to tell some fellow members who would understand.
I am working on my mission papers and one of the high council members that is in our ward asked me to speak with him in one of the wards in our stake. I was really surprised that he asked me because I was pretty sure that he doesn't like me to much. (I am friends with one of his daughters.) He still might not but hey if he didn't he wouldn't have asked me. Back to your regularly scheduled calling thread |

Think of it this way, it's a win-win for the high councilman. On the one hand, he's helping you overcome fear of public speaking by putting you in a position to get used to it. On the other hand, he's punishing you by making you speak in public, something that a lot of people fear. He gets to sock it to you and be justified at the same time!

EQ Pres.
Former YM Pres. Took the YM to an ARFCOM / Scout shoot a couple of years ago. Their photos are somewhere on the NY/NJ forum. Got some of the local members to bring their toys and act as range officers. I miss the former as the big boys are no fun. Hidden addenda plus it's like pulling teach to get anyone to do anything. My wife wants to move back west. Thanks for letting me rant. |
