Why?  I know God answers prayers on His on time when the time is right.  But I can only take it so much longer.  I have prayed for deliverance with a completely earnest heart for so long, unanswered.

What is this telling me?

That sometimes the answer is no.

Having said that, never give up, never lose faith, and remain positive.

All things come in time, someway, somehow.

Look at JOB, sometimes you just never know what the big man is up to, but if all is good in your heart, then no matter what he does, it will make you a better person in the end.

If God always said "yes" to our prayers and did it on our timeline, then there'd likely be few people of REAL faith because faith would not be required. I've done as you did and also received a "no" or felt that my prayers went unanswered in the past. But is wasn't until I had the benefit of 20/20 hindsight that I was able to realize that the Lord gave me WHAT I NEEDED, rather than only what I wanted. I know that may sound like a cop-out to some, but it's a fact.

I hope that your prayers are answered as to the desires in your heart, but don't let a different answer comprimise your faith. REAL faith dictates that we accept answers we don't always like. But I know man... it ain't always easy to swallow...

Maybe you aren't suppossed to be delivered from this problem?

I try not to tell God what to do.  I ask only for knowledge of His will and the power to carry that out.

It means he won't do it on his own, you also have to work hard to achieve what you want. With your hard work and prayers, you'll get where you want to be.

Careful DH... from what I've read, you seem to like to like to state things in absolutes. It's okay to aspire to absolutes, but give yourself an "out" WHEN you fall short of your goals. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, just want you to know how you're coming across. You're human so I'm sure there have been times when you blew-it and let your pride trample on God's will. Don't I wish!!!  (Actually... it'd better be stated if I said "DIDN'T I wish!!!")

Tis not always the case though sadly. There WILL be times when no matter how bad you want something, it isn't going to happen. You can pray morning, noon, and night and it still doesn't come to pass. The Lord sees into the future and he knows what you absolutely NEED. And if you're lucky, he'll ignore you're prideful pleedings and give that to you instead of what you want. How do I know this? Been there done that on several occasions...

Actually, I try to only deal with absolutes when they are absoluetly correct.

But really I am in search for the truth.  And yes, I have failed in this prayer many times and have asked for specific things.  Usually those prayers don't turn out to well.

But over all I just pray that Jesus may be my Savior that day.  If I have Jesus today then all will be well.

Who do you think gave us self-interest?  Nowhere in the Bible does God command without mentioning the benefit.

A very good example is David and Goliath.  This the first thing he says when he hears about Goliath

David:

1 Samuel 17:26 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society

26 David asked the men standing near him, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?"

in context
1 Samuel 17:25-27 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society
25 Now the Israelites had been saying, "Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his father's family from taxes in Israel."
26 David asked the men standing near him, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?"
27 They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, "This is what will be done for the man who kills him."

Its called incentive and I mention it because God created it and I want to make sure the original poster does not fall into Satan's trap of 'woe is me'.

Even better is to pray for Victory instead of deliverance.  Praying for Victory is a small difference but it comes from a mindset of strength.

I'm not a priest, so take this however you wish.

The benefits of a spiritual request are most often received spiritually.  You must pray for the right thing.  Sometimes when praying for a specific physical outcome or scenario, God will not see fit to grant your request.  There is one thing that God will always deliver on, though.  He will always give you the strength to endure any trial, if you ask Him for this and place your trust in Him.  Odds are that you know what you need to do already; situations are seldom completely unsalvagable.  Draw your strength from God and trust him to provide you with the breaks you need so that you can do what you need to do.

And, sometimes, bad things happen to good people despite our best efforts.  No one knows why because no one knows what God's plan for this universe is.  Think of the trees.  A tree doesn't know that it has a purpose to play in the global ecosystem.  A tree doesn't know that it produces oxygen or that its wood is useful to humans.  All a tree knows is that it needs sunlight and water to stay alive, so it grows to get that sunlight and water.  You can extend the metaphor to a point, in that we humans are the trees and God has an understanding of the universal plan, except that it breaks down because we humans don't always know the best course to take.  We don't have such an easy task as a tree, but with the gift of intelligence that God has given us, probably, comes more responsibility.

I'm not nearly as well-versed as some of the members of this forum, but that is my understanding of it.

Doctrine & Covenants 122:

5 If thou art called to pass through tribulation; if thou art in perils among false brethren; if thou art in perils among robbers; if thou art in perils by land or by sea;

6 If thou art accused with all manner of false accusations; if thine enemies fall upon thee; if they tear thee from the society of thy father and mother and brethren and sisters; and if with a drawn sword thine enemies tear thee from the bosom of thy wife, and of thine offspring, and thine elder son, although but six years of age, shall cling to thy garments, and shall say, My father, my father, why can’t you stay with us? O, my father, what are the men going to do with you? and if then he shall be thrust from thee by the sword, and thou be dragged to prison, and thine enemies prowl around thee like wolves for the blood of the lamb;

7 And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.

8 The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?

BeetleBailey, I don't have the answer.  I believe that the interconnectedness of all things sometimes caused us not to receive what we ask for - what happens to us/for us affects others in ways we don't understand or know about.  I do sincerely ask God to bless you and provide what you need.  Don't give up.  God loves you and your brothers and sisters here are praying for you.  May you be well, happy, and at peace.

Beetle,

Keep diligent with your prayer.  Not knowing what you are praying for, it is hard to offer spiritual guidance, but I have found that these things work, sometime miraculously and right before my very eyes.

If you are having financial problems, give them over to God and stop worrying about them.  Don't pray for money, but rather financial success in life.  Ask God to make you into a vessel for his use and you will be blessed.

If you have legal troubles, pray that they be resolved to HIS satisfaction.  During my brothers divorce things got very nasty.  He ex wife's attorney was a barrel bottom scumbag who's M.O. is to accuse physical, mental, and sexual abuse, no matter who the client is.  He then encourages his clients to disregard the terms of the divorce agreement so that the other party will eventually bring the case back to court.  He then can refile for more money and make more allegations, all the while, lining his pockets.  In this case, as a family we prayed the God sow confusion in the enemies camp.  When the court date came, the ex and her attorney were virtually mute.  They were confused and couldn't offer any evidence of any wrongdoing.  The judge threw the case out and sanctioned the attorney for wasting the courts time.

Hope that helps.

I can relate, BB.

I've had a specific problem I sought deliverance from, and a complete victory didn't come.  It continued to be a struggle.  There have been good days and bad days.  Sometimes the battle went my way, other times I found myself on my face repenting for something I'd repented of multiple times.

It can be a great source of frustration.

Then one day this passage became personal and came to life for me:

To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (II Corinthians 12:7-10)

I was not alone in my experience.  Paul suffered in a similar way.

I think there is a reason he described it as a thorn, rather than being specific.

Each of us has an area they struggle with.  It may be alcohol, pornography, or any from a long list of unhealthy behaviors, habits, or temptations.

Paul prayed three times for deliverance from his own "thorn", yet the answer was no.

What he did next was adjust his attitude.  This isn't always easy, but we can be transformed by the washing of the Word.

Meditate on this passage of Scripture and ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding.

One night a man
had a dream.
He dreamt he was
walking with the Lord.
Across the sky
flashed scenes of his life.
For each scene,
he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand;
one belonged to him,
and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of
his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the
footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times
along the path of his life there
was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it had
happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered the man and
he questioned the Lord about it.

"Lord, you said that once  I decided
to follow you, you'd walk with me all
the way. But  I have noticed that during
the most troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when  I needed
you most, you would leave me."

The Lord replied,
"My precious child,  I love you
and  I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then.... that I carried you."

I don't know what your situation is BB, but I too have been down and being kicked for so long that I can't hardly remember a better time in my life, when things are starting to get better, something always comes along and sets me back two steps from the beginning, but I've got my faith in God, and I pray daily, and ask that I remain humble and for strength so as not to waver, our faith is a motivator, its as strong as love or hate, but it can also be very fragile at times and suseptible to loss should we allow it to waver or approach it as a task, its when we allow that to happen that we begin to question our beliefs and that makes us doubt ourselves and God,

it is in good times that our faith seems the strongest, and in bad times that it wavers, it is only when we accept our situation that we become content and our faith becomes consistant, then and only then can we look back and see that in the worst parts of our lives it was God that carried us through, so when we think that he isn't listning or answering our prayers we may be asking too much or praying for the wrong thing, I can't think of the script in the bible where it says "God knows all that you are and all that you'll ever be from even before you were born", but if you believe that, then you've accepted your situation and realize there is no other course for your life to take at this time, you've come to the bump in the road so to speak, so instead of asking for relief from your affliction, maybe you should ask for strength to continue your fight,

even Job had taken all he could take, and his faith wavered, but he accepted his afflictions and strengthend his faith, and in the end was restored ten fold, *your results may vary*, but ask for a little at a time and I think you'll see that things will slowly [sometimes painfully slow] begin to improve.

I have always made enough money to be comfortable but have been a bad steward, God has recently put me repeatedly in circumstances where I cannot earn my way out of them, to show me I by myself am unable to be master.
But that and several other trails have caused me to Devour the lords word, I read his word like it is the Only air to breathe and I know that when my knowledge is sufficient and my pride is humbled enough I will hand Jesus the Keys to my life and LET GO OF THEM, something I have been unable to due thus far

A lot might depend on what you're praying for deliverance FROM? Also, it matters a lot what you're DOING about this problem you want to be delivered of? Have you discussed your situation with a clergyperson or someone who's judgement about spiritual things you trust?

No, I haven't spoken to anyone at church about it because I'm usually a little leary about it.  But again, things are beginning to turn around.  As many have said, I think this time like many others, God is aiming for the realization of total submission to His will.  I have faith in that.

Very true!  Oftentimes, we wish for deliverance from things that God intends in our lives to make us stronger.  The lesson goes unlearned if the trial is never experienced.

There is one thing I've prayed for almost 20 years.  God has yet to say, "Yes."  Meanwhile, I'm learning as I go and hope one day that He will find me worthy of my petition.

I think one thing to consider is what you want deliverance from....

If a Christian wants victory over a sin in his life he will get it....  The thing is, we can easily fool ourselves about whether or not we really want the victory.

Victory over sin does not mean that temptation will not be there.  It will.  But often times we will not remove ourselves from situations or evironments that bring on more temptation than we would face otherwise.

I so wish that God would just free Christians from the pull that sin has on us.

It is not what He is going to do, though - not until we get those glorified bodies.

Deliverance from sickness or situations is a different matter.  We might need the sickness (Paul needed a thorn in his flesh) or need to be in an unpleasant situation in order to grow spiritually.  Tribulation brings patience.  Patience brings hope,.

Just remember that God knows what he is doing.  He cares for you, and wants you to have victory.  He wants you to have life, and have it more abundantly.
