Seriously, no offence intended, different strokes for different folks and all that, but that has got to be some of the worst music ever produced by someone other then Celine Dion. How would anyone go about picking their favorite? What would be the standard for comparison? Even the short compilation infomercials are almost too much to bear. |

Have you heard Aaron Nevilles version? It's pretty good. Or, go all the way and choose Andrea Bocelli. And that's as contemporary as I get. Christian music are the songs in the hymn book at my church, anything else is secular, whether it talks about Jesus or not. |

Now, how could anyone take offence? Certainly, different strokes, but my guess would be that you haven't listened to very much, other than what you might have heard on some late night commercials. I understand it to be purely subjective, but my hope was to get the names of some songs I might not have heard yet. As with other music, I may really like 2 or 3 songs off of a CD. |

I hate to admit it but much of the contemporary Christian music isn't that listenable to me... I like that one song so I bought the 2 disc set it was on, and it's not horrible, but it's certainly not something I'd listen to regularly. It just doesn't do it for me.
I know that music is a gift from Christ and that it should exalt Him but... I like to hear "I wanna be sedated" too... |

I tend to agree, which is why my "Contemporary Christian" music tends to be limited to 70's and 80's stuff. Larry Norman rocked (and still does)! Of course, they were all hippy Jesus Freaks at the time, and no one wanted "their kind" of music.

"Watch What You're Doing" by Larry Norman is an old time favorite.
Mark Farner's remake of "Some Kind of Wonderful" is good. Darrell Mansfield had some good stuff on his Revelation album. Almost anything by Idle Cure. Ken Tamplin's "An Axe To Grind" album has some spectacular guitar work on it. There's so much good stuff out there! I looked back at what I wrote and realized I'm going Old School with some of that! |

Like some others here, I don't care for "contemporary Christian" music - I don't have any kind of problem with it, it just isn't for me.
OTOH, I do like several versions of old hymns done over the years by various secular artists (although most of the young'ns on this board probably wouldn't consider them very "contemoprary," I suspect  ). And, in spite of myself, I love Elvis' gospel recordings. The last song I can think of that I really liked and would fit this topic was snappy little tune the Oak Ridge Boys included on their Fancy Free album (a popular/secular album, but this song would definitely fit the "contemporary Christian" label) called "I Would Crawl All the Way (to the River)."
