I'm not sure I could pick just one, but I'll kick off the discussion. Dive by Steven Curtis Chapman, Here I Go Again by Casting Crowns, or Restored by Jeremy Camp.

never heard of any of those.
Give me Ave Maria by Perry Como. Sgatr15 |

Broken Promises by Resurrection Band.
Dunno if I'd call it contemporary, though. It was written in |

Indeed. It will be moved shortly, I fear, but note that I replied while it was still in General Discussion! Any song by Ray Bolz is going to make my list of favorite Contemporary Christian tunes. Try his 'Moments From the Heart', album, which includes 'Watch the Lamb', probably my all-time favorite CCM song. Eric The(MyMother'sFavorite,AsWell)Hun |

Me neither, But I recently picked up a Johnny Cash singing the Gospel Hymns album I miss the Man in Black. |

in the name of fairness, can I say "the god that failed" by Metallica?
He can stop the engine of the world, but can't stay away from contemporary christian?
Seriously, no offence intended, different strokes for different folks and all that, but that has got to be some of the worst music ever produced by someone other then Celine Dion. How would anyone go about picking their favorite? What would be the standard for comparison? Even the short compilation infomercials are almost too much to bear. |
Sorry for starting this in the wrong forum, but now, for some reason, I feel compelled to state that I was back in before the move ...

"Come, Now Is The Time To Worship..." by Brian Doerkson. The woman's voice in that song is just so... pure.
Have you heard Aaron Nevilles version? It's pretty good. Or, go all the way and choose Andrea Bocelli. And that's as contemporary as I get. Christian music are the songs in the hymn book at my church, anything else is secular, whether it talks about Jesus or not. |
Now, how could anyone take offence? Certainly, different strokes, but my guess would be that you haven't listened to very much, other than what you might have heard on some late night commercials. I understand it to be purely subjective, but my hope was to get the names of some songs I might not have heard yet. As with other music, I may really like 2 or 3 songs off of a CD. |
As I understand it, religious discussion now is not banned from GD, its just that if you choose to do it here, make sure you got your nomex undies on...... |
I hate to admit it but much of the contemporary Christian music isn't that listenable to me... I like that one song so I bought the 2 disc set it was on, and it's not horrible, but it's certainly not something I'd listen to regularly. It just doesn't do it for me.
I know that music is a gift from Christ and that it should exalt Him but... I like to hear "I wanna be sedated" too... |

One of the groups I can listen to. |

I tend to agree, which is why my "Contemporary Christian" music tends to be limited to 70's and 80's stuff. Larry Norman rocked (and still does)! Of course, they were all hippy Jesus Freaks at the time, and no one wanted "their kind" of music. |
"Watch What You're Doing" by Larry Norman is an old time favorite.
Mark Farner's remake of "Some Kind of Wonderful" is good. Darrell Mansfield had some good stuff on his Revelation album. Almost anything by Idle Cure. Ken Tamplin's "An Axe To Grind" album has some spectacular guitar work on it. There's so much good stuff out there! I looked back at what I wrote and realized I'm going Old School with some of that! |
Is that putting form above content? |
Thanks for the heads up Eric. I'll keep my eyes peeled for it. |

Quite possibly it is. I can't defend my position on it, just the way I was raised. |

Like some others here, I don't care for "contemporary Christian" music - I don't have any kind of problem with it, it just isn't for me.
OTOH, I do like several versions of old hymns done over the years by various secular artists (although most of the young'ns on this board probably wouldn't consider them very "contemoprary," I suspect ). And, in spite of myself, I love Elvis' gospel recordings. The last song I can think of that I really liked and would fit this topic was snappy little tune the Oak Ridge Boys included on their Fancy Free album (a popular/secular album, but this song would definitely fit the "contemporary Christian" label) called "I Would Crawl All the Way (to the River)." |

Christmas Song and Bartender both by
Believe this or not The Dave Matthews Band Bartender please Fill my glass for me With the wine you gave Jesus that set him free After three days in the ground Bartender you see The wine that's drinking me Came from the vine that strung Judas From the Devil's tree It's roots deep, deep in the ground I'm on bended knees, I pray Bartender please When I was young I didn't think about it Now I can't get it off of my mind Totally awesome song, both lyrically and musically. |
A really good one - 'In christ alone'
I cant remember the artist but it is a wonderful song. |
Apparentlyu you were right ETH. Hmmm, I wonder if all otrher topics will also be moved now? Like guns, scope, movie, etc question that are in GD. Makes sense no? Sgat1r5 |
