I think....

1994 4Runner, 135k miles, V6, leather, sunroof.

I'm aware of the potential issues with this V6 - the timing belt was done at 105k and the head gasket recall was done. The coolant is clear and the oil looks clean. No leaks.

The red paint is oxidized, and the inside could use a major detailing. It could use some new tires soon, and has rust on the bumpers but none on any body panels.

It failed inspection, so the prior owners basically gave up on it b/c it ws their spare car. It needs new front rotors and pads, and a headlight to pass. (I had it re-inspected today to confirm before finalizing the deal)

The brake job on this vehicle is a major PITA (because of the automatic locking hubs) and costs at least $500 from most mechanics. I'll do it myself for about $125 in parts.

Price: $1,500.

How'd I do?

Good score. BTW I just walked in from doing the front brakes on my 89 runner (no joke) and really it's not that bad.

Failed inspection?  Where do you live, Okinawa?

About 1/3 of the states have equipment inspections of some sort.

It would be great if whichever mod moved this here could move it back....it's not as if this is some sort of car enthusiast post.

Surely there are many GD posters that have 4Runners that might have input but never visit the car forum.

Note that I put the "technical" question about the brakes here.

They go a lot deeper than brakes! Luckily, there is no emissions inspection (except for northern virginia)

Sounds like a nice truck, at a good price! I'm sure you'll be glad to have it up to snuff by wintertime

I'm into it for about $200 for rotors, pads, and new front bearings. (which it didn't need, but once you've taken the 4wd hubs and rotors off you might as well do.....)

I have a line on a set of 4 used BFG tires + AR wheels for $300

It's not as bad as it looks....the oxidation is very superficial, and the underlying paint looks good....I think I can resurrect this paint job.

If not: rattle can camo!

You got a good deal.

Try NuFinish for the paint.  if it doesn't work, try some rubbing compound.

If this truck was taken care of, it'll last 300K.

I've got a 97, its has 100k, not one single problem execept normal maintenance stuff.

sooooooooo.....

I replaced the rotors and bearings...took a little longer than expected because I lost a cone washer..

So I'm trying to to wrap up the project today and I can't get the new pads in....one of the pistons is seized on each side....so now I'm rebuilding the calipers.
