My 2000 1500 Silverado has 51k on it. I realized when I was at the range last night that the battery was that old.   My range is 12 miles from anyone, with no one to help (it's in the sticks).

Is there a way to test my battery to see if it needs replacement, before it blows?? Thanks

most chain auto part stores will test your battery for free. Verify that the alternator is charging, and perform a battery load test, to see how it does.

FYI, I recently replaced my 03 silverado battery at 50K. One terminal developed a crack and acid started leaking.
