Mama was @ the dealer getting some recall stuff ironed out & while they were inspecting the '99 ford taurus they said the squeeking up front was from the tie rods being worn & that they need to be replaced. Is this as simple as putting on new ends ? Front end alignment required ?  Thanks

Tie rods directly affect toe-in (part of alignment), so at least the toe will have to be re-established.  Basically, slap on the new ends, set the toe (you can do this yourself at home), and you're good to go.  Depending on the car, you may have to center the steering wheel by adjusting the tie rod ends as well.

Yes, it is as simple as puttin on new ends as long as it's the outer tie rod ends and not the inners. The inners are either part of the steering rack, or they take a special tool to remove.

Either way, you should have an alignment done afterwards, as in immediately afterwards, and have a reputable shop do it.
