I had a ~very~ close call today riding the bike to work. Its the bike I built 4 years ago(low glide/ Rev tech 100 mags). I had got on I5 and had just 3 miles to my exit. Partway there I had this strange feeling that I had to check the handlebars.
When I put it away last Nov, I replaced the primary gasket and thought i had pretty much went over the bike checking for loose bolts/nuts etc.
Anyway after rideing the 3 miles at about 70 mph, I got off at my exit. Waited for the green light, started to turn, and the HANDLBARS went one way and the WHEEL went another
Since I was only going a couple mph, I just coasted it off the road and said WTF The bolt had come out!!!!!
I got it on finger tight and slowly made it to work. I borrowed a ccoworkers sockets and he got me some locktight. As I was putting it on, I could feel it want to strip. I made it home ok, took the bars off and saw the the threads had stripped out! (cheap Chinese crap)
So tomorrow I will drill and tap it to 1/2 in. Its a smaller metric size now so 1/2 in will get new threads cut.
Be careful out there
