My POS is being, well, a POS.

So I'm looking at possibly replacing it with a 2000-2002 bmw 3-series (they look nice, and I've heard decent things about their reliability)

WTF is the difference between the 318, 323 325 and 330?  And other than the x being all wheel drive, do the other letters mean anything?

The 318 is a four cylinder, the 323, 325 and 330 are sixes.  The 323 was a lower priced car, usually no leather or sunroof.  The 330 is the nicest and most expensive.

The letter "s" is the 2 door, "c" is convertible.  They are all "I" models (injected).  You are right about the "x" meaning all wheel drive.

The M3 is the hot one.  They are awesome but so are the maintence costs.

M-Power! I like the 3 series but feel a little more comfortable in the 5 series. 7s are very nice and way out of my price range. and 8s looks like the south bound side of north bound Rosie O'Donnel. Zs are awesome but i dont fin in em

You need tp get one of the new M5's.  I'm normally not a BMW fan, but the M5 is very cool.

I've had a couple Bimmers and currently have a 528
Great great cars, good gas mileage (really 30mpg+ on the freeway, 25 around town), power, comfort, etc.

however
you MUST live close to a dealer to make this work,  they aren't POS but they do need continuing maintainence and it's not cheap.  an oil change is $95  (which ok, you usually odn't need but 10k to 15k miles)

adn insurance isn't cheap either.

But, great cars

teh BMW inline 6's are by far their best motors.  Get any one of those you can.

Great driver's cars.   Fun.  Not overall powerful on most models, but well balanced.

Probably won't overwhelm you on a test drive, it takes some time to appreciate them.  The more you drive them, the more you like them.

Kind of expensive for the size car they are, but they do hold the value pretty well

my 2000 328CI & 1993 325I   (both gone now)

Both have the sport wheels - bought new take-offs on Ebay - nice upgrade.

Thats the old E36 nomenclature. For E46s and E90s, The XXXi is the sedan and the CI is the coupe or convertable. The xi is the all wheel.

Perhaps it is just because they were the cheapest of the lot, but all 318s that come into the shop are total beaters.

That's because it the BMW you buy when you can't afford a BMW. Although my buddies 318ti is SWEEEET. inside and out, pretty quick too, after a few selected mods.
