Say what you will, but I saw a LOT of them in the mountains near Monterrey, Mexico. This is a place where some people still use burros to get around.

What Jeep did was replace an incredibly stout, long-running manly vehicle with a feminine-attractive vehicle to draw in the women to their SUV offering.....which blew the mid-market between the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. My wife has the last year the Cherokee was made, in Gun-Steel blue, and I drive the TJ Wrangler.

We both despise the Liberty deeply. My MIL drives the Grand Cherokee, so I guess you could say we're traditional Jeep fans.

I test drove one one time and was impressed. I drive a real jeep but man what I wouldnt give to have that CRD engine in my TJ.

I'm just hoping that someone will come up with a way to get the diesel power plant into a YJ.

Probably won't happen so I'll end up putting a Vortec in mine.

I don't really have a problem with the Liberty other than you can't readily make it hard core ready. Least not yet. I'm sure someone will figure it out sooner or later

Funny that i saw this thread . My co-worker has a 99(?) Liberty with about 70k miles. This morning as he was leaving the gas station, he said it would rev but not go into gear while in Drive. He limped home in 2nd.

Thats called limp mode and is a design feature in a lot of modern vehicles. It is designed to allow safe passage out of an area, but to minimize damage to the vehicle.
