Hey all,

In my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, *all* the interior convenience lights (dash, gearshift, climate control backlight, etc) flicker.  They seem to flicker when driving on anything but the smoothest pavement.  If I flick/double-tap the interior light dimmer, they seem to respond, so I'm guessing that the dimmer switch is the problem.  The circuits classes I took in college, left me with the opinion that these kinds of switches rarely "go bad", so I'm wondering what y'all think?  Have people had this happen before?  What's consensus on the problem?  Switch?  Connection?

A bad gound wire is prolly the culprit. I had a '88 VW jetta with a similar problem (the dash lights and all dash instrumentation) would flicker/be inoperative. Dealer diagnosed a bad ground and fixed it.

check the ground and check the switch. junk yard for replacement switch if local new is cost prohibitive.

H/L dimmer switches go bad all the time...  Just replace it...

Looks like you figured it out.  Replace the dimmer.
