What do you guys recommed for a decent cheap beater.  Doesn't need to look good, just looking for basic transportation preferably under $2k.  Looked at an 2003 ford taurus, drove fine and looked like it was maintained well.  Is there anything to look out for on them?  Thanks

10 year old Buick LeSabre.

Plenty of room in the trunk for your guns.

pretty much anything imported with less than 120K on the ODO should be gtg.

For that price range, I think it's more about the prior owners and a good inspection than the make and model.

Some other good options in the price range would be Saturns, Grand Ams, and Grand Prix's

and to contradict what I said earlier - something like a front engine rear wheel drive would allow the least to go wrong, especially if it's something like a c10 (parts are just about everywhere)

Geo/Chevy Prizm. Same basic car as a Toyota Corolla, without the Toyota price.

I would buy a crown Vic with about 135k on it, beat the fuck out of it for another 70k miles and then sell it to some doper for 2500.
Rinse and repeat.

This thread made me curious as to what I could find locally on Craigslist for under $2000.  There are some surprisingly nice Buicks on there - most of the Hondas and Toyotas at that price range were pretty jacked-up looking.

A solid Regal or LeSabre would probably be a decent choice.  A Taurus would probably be decent, too...
