Picked it up today.

I bought my son a 2012 KLX110 a couple of weeks ago and had to get another bike. .

Did a little riding today around my property, this bike is so much lighter than my old '07 525EXC 4-stroke. Can't wait to take it out to our club grounds tomorrow.

It needs a few add-ons like skid plate, brush bars, clutch and rotor guards.

You'll love it. I have the 250XC-W and like the 300 engine a bit more. It's more of a tractor thatn the 250.

Nice bike. I just bought a 10 250 XCW. Was looking for a 300 but found a better deal on the 250. Only problem I have is with the Estart. I think the starter is bad. Not a big deal but would like it
to work.

Friend just bought a 12 300 XC. Bike had loads of torque. So easy to ride.

I went out to the clubgrounds today and spent 4 hours cutting down a bunch of huge trees that were blocking the trails. When we got done I was too tired to ride.

Nozzleman and myself will be riding tomorrow.

I ran a ground wire from the starter negative up the frame to the ground block. It made a big difference in how the starter works. I also have a bigger battery (YTZ7S) from the four stroke bikes in mine. The 2 stroke e-starts are notorious for not working very well.

I replaced the battery in my 525 with an AGM battery, they last much longer. The 300 is a dream to kick compared to the 525, which started easier when really cold by kicking it. I will still throw an AGM in the 300 just so it works properly.

Went riding yesterday, man I love this bike! It was 36 degrees out but we still had a great time.

Here's Nozzleman's '05 200 EXC

Awesome. Once you get going, the 36 degrees doesn't matter much. It's when the ground is frozen and it feels like your riding on rough pavement that it starts to become mildly unpleasant.

Where are you in IN?

I live in Elkhart, but I ride near Ligonier.

How many hours on the engine?

Do a compression test, if it's low then replace the rings.

What spring does the engine have installed?
Red, green or yellow?
Red is for "hard power", yellow is for "medium power" and green is for "soft power".
The springs adjust how fast the power valve opens and at what RPM's it is full open.

There is a brass square plug nut in the power valve spring cover, you can adjust it (the service manual says not to touch it).
That controls at when the power valve will open irregardless of the installed spring.

Replace the stock cylinder head with an SXS cylinder head (or send it out to Slavens, Munn, Dicks or any good KTM shop to have them "work it".
The stock cylinder head for your year bike was upgraded to the 2010 and newer cylinder head.

P/N for the 300 SXS head - SXS10300051

If you're going to replace the battery pony up the $$ for a Shorai battery.

Starter issues?
Do the Slavens oil starter mod

Check the shims on the starter

The external ground wire for the starter is a good idea too.

I also suggest getting the Hyde Racing skid plate / pipe guard combo.
(Installed on my 2011 XCW 300)

The KTM 300 is an awesome bike!

Thanks for the info, that pipe guard looks like something out of Mad Max. My pipe already has a few small dings in it so I went with just a skid plate.

When I replace the pipe I'll stick a guard on it. I don't ride around rocks that big.
