Yesterday I was at the on-post Firestone getting a tire repaired and learned something about Nissan Xterras. Apparently, the plastic fuel tank likes to bow, warp or otherwise change shape, causing the seal around the fuel sender to break, and eventually requiring the part to be replaced. This of course, is a $400 or so fix because the entire assembly is inside the fuel tank.

The messed up thing was that the owner (a 1LT) was deploying on Sunday, and the warranty company wanted didn't want to pay without sending out an inspector... on Monday.

Any of you heard about this issue with Xterras?

What generation Xterra?  We have one at work as a field vehicle and AFAIK it hasn't had any problems other than mice getting in it and chewing most of the way through one of the seat belts.

How much you wanna bet a tire monkey got the lift under the gas tank instead of the frame and buckled it?

Not sure what year it was.

Wouldn't doubt the second possibility either.

I have an 05 Frontier. I just recently replaced the fule level sensor. cost $340. The fule gage had quit working properly. No idea why it happened.

Yeah. What year is it? 06/08 have a recall for the sending unit and Nissan can be talked into replacing the tank if it has the big bow in the bottom if your dealer is worth anything.

05/07 aren't under the recall but they've had problems with the sending unit and tank also.

He doesn't need the whole fuel pump/sender assy, Just the sender and tank.

I have an '08 Titan and that part got recalled and replaced for free this year. You might want to check on that.
