In 1985 the mid-size telco where I worked was sold (along with me) to a smaller telco.  I moved all of my retirement $$ from midco to smallco.  Price of small telco at the time was $12.75/sh.  I was able to purchase about 300 shares.  That stock has split 5 times & is currently about $35/sh.  Continued payroll deduction purchases + DRIP + 401k has put me in a position where I am able to retire comfortably at age 46.5.  I keep working because the job pays pretty well, the work isn't hard & I want to buy more AR's

My 70 'Cuda I bought when 15 and other Mopar parts, I have about $4,000 invested, and it is now worth about $10,000-12,000.

Dosent amount to much in the long run, but I can wait 'til I am out of school and find out if all this money for tuition was worth it.

Nothing spectactular, houses in my area are lucky to appreciate 2-4% a year.  Now I'm looking into turning $40,000 into $60,000 by going in a deal with my brother in law and sister by buying an empty lot, building a house on it, selling the house and sharing the profits.

ETA: brother in law is licensed builder with years of expierience, but little cash

I bought some MOT Call Options ($19 strike) 3 weeks ago and sold them last week for a 161% return!

Not my best "investment" but to date it is by far my best trade.

The only solid money maker for me has been real estate.  In fact,  I've been thinking of real estate lately. Specifically, to buy a more expensive house.

That real estate is the only thing that has been a clear winner the last several
years. All my other investments are barely appreciating.
Even with the real estate market here along the front range of Colorado slowing
down as of late it seems to be a good move.  Plus, when it rebounds like the way
its done in Phoenix, for example, I would be sitting pretty good.

My house and my deferred compensation plan.

I bought a humble enough home that I can still max out my deferred comp.  I dont miss that money at all and it builds up fast. Will have over 100K in it next quarter and I'm only 34.

Halliburton

Bought it at just over $20 after the war started and they were in the middle of that lawsuit business.

My house. Bought it in 1992 for $189,00. Bought it again in 1996 for $210,000 . Turned down an unsolicited offer of $700,000 for it in 2001. It's probably worth a mil now.

I bought shares of Best Buy @$9 back in the mid-90's....and have not touched it to this day, on a hunch.

Here's the rub......I bought 100 shares only.

Bought our house 4 1/2 years ago for $99K, put $16K into it, and now have realtors wanting to sell it for $200K.

$115K for $200K. Not bad.

My first bike.  1992 EX500 (ninja)

Bought it used with 7K on it and paid $1,800.  Rode it 15,000 miles,  lowsided it once (pretty bad) and turned around and sold it for $1,500 cash.  Basically a 2 year rental bike that I put 15K on it, dumped it, and it only cost me $300 to rent.
